EDIT: Oops. The legal requirement is actually for full calendar years; thus, since Bergman was alive January 1st, 1931, the copyright is still valid during 2011.

We'll wait.

The Swedish author Hjalmar Bergman died January 1st, 1931. Thus, the copyright to his works has expired even in the life+70 countries -- such as Sweden. Bergman's characterisations of life in rapidly changing post-agricultural society have been fascinating for me. There are some of his works under Project Gutenberg, several more at Projekt Runeberg; link above.[/size]

No no, you're a decade out -- but in a good way! Bergman's work entered the European public domain on 1st Jan, 2002. (1931+70, rounded up.) You're able to record anything he published up to 31st December 1922, for LibriVox to comply with US copyright law, where all our files are stored. His works published 1923-1931 will be copyright in the US for 95 years from their first date of publication, so don't start popping into the US PD until 2018.

I'm brand-new at this. Are there any Swedish readings around?

To listen to? Try this catalogue search.

To contribute to? There are a couple of Multilingual projects that'd welcome a Swedish speaker! Short works or First chapters. I don't think we currently have any Swedish collaborations, though :( so it's good you're joining us! :D

I'll be happy to help organising anything in Swedish, Danish or Norwegian. I had talked about starting a scandinavian short work collection, but had no readers. If the readers are there now, let me know.

The last two sections of the 1908 Nobelprize are in Danish and Swedish, respectively:
