Hello,

I would like to suggest the following 3 collections of Taymour's literary works:

Hi Nadia,

The first volume alone seems to be 456 pages long. As a solo project, this would take a long time to record (months and months probably). However, if you select some stories from these collections, you could record those as a solo project. When you do a solo project, you become the Book Coordinator (BC). There is also a Meta-Coordinator (MC) who takes care of the cataloguing when it is finished.

Just remember, it's a commitment to do a solo project.

Thank you so much for responding here. Actually, I wasn't thinking at all of taking charge of this project on my own. However, I think that the collections are worth recording, first because this is a very important author, one of the pioneers, second because he is diverse and Arabic-speakers will enjoy reading/listening to his works.

I was hopeful of finding many people who can help with the technical aspect, recordings (there are the plays that need many voices), etc. I can try and do the book coordination, except there is a volunteer with more experience willing to. By the way, thank you for the link.

I know it is an ambitious project, but I am hopeful.

As I am currently learning Arabic, this project is really exciting for me. I doubt I'd be able to understand much, but still, as I learn more and more I'll be able to understand more and more. Although I can read the Arabic script smoothly normally, with the slightly faded pages and the font and without diacritics I would probably be unable to pronounce any of it correctly.

Dear Nadia,

There aren't many active Arabic speaking volunteers here. Not all projects which are suggested are taken up, which is why I mentioned that it could be something you want to do in the future. Everything here really depends on personal initiative. That said, I recommend that you spend some more time volunteering and getting familiar with the way things work here before you decide to become a Book Coordinator. It is a commitment and we do have projects that get abandoned, as not everyone realises that it can be a long-term commitment.

When you do decide to become a Book Coordinator, I suggest you choose only a few short writings and make your own collection, one which you could record on your own unless you know any Arabic speakers who could volunteer as well. The books above are very long and would take a very, very long time to record if you decided to do each one as a single project. Drama projects can be a bit complicated to edit, so it's best not to start with a play or other drama.

Thank you for the encouragement and your kind words. Actually, Taymour is an interesting writer and hopefully some of his texts will be recorded here in Librivox and you will be able to follow them. As for helping out with this, I understand what you said about the quality of the scanned pages and, unfortunately, there is no reliable OCR out there that can help transform these pdfs into more readable formats. Even so, it would be tedious to put tashkil on the words. If you have anything on mind, please let me know and meanwhile you can try reading some parts to yourself out loud to see how difficult or not difficult this may be to you, and please keep an eye on this post.

I went through the help page on Books coordinators' work and, please correct me if I am wrong, I think I can launch the project at "New Projects Launch Pad" and say that I would be recording short parts of these collections, right? In this case, will other people be able to volunteer?

Hi Nadia,

At the outset, you decide whether your project is a SOLO or a GROUP project. If you want to start a solo project, you should look at the thread which says "Want to start a solo recording?": http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13513

And if you want to start a group recording (where more than one person can contribute), you should read either "Want to start a collaborative book?" http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13510 for full books or "Want to read a short work or start a short works collection?" http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13515 for the kind of collection you'd want to start.

So yes, if you set up a group project (in the New Projects Launch Pad), anyone can volunteer and submit readings to your project. Don't forget to put the template and all the relevant information about the book. If you are the Book Coordinator, you will regularly update the Magic Window when someone submits a recording and contact readers if their recordings are taking too long (e.g. more than 2 months) or to find out how they are coming along. It is a commitment, but you'll get used to it and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I am already enjoying volunteering at Librivox, I wish I had more time! Any way, I went through the links you provided and though, I would like to launch a collaborative project, I would refrain from the taking the responsibilities of a book coordinator at the moment. I think the solo project is simpler to handle.
