Ummm... Translation, please?
-Hitha.
Well, my Italian is pretty much limited to food and wine, but I gather the idea is that any translations must have been published before 1923 in order to be recorded for Librivox.
Either that or her spaghetti's over-cooked...

ETA:

You didn't understand my amazing Googlitalian? (Jim did.)
I rather get the impression that she dropped by to request some Italian Freud, though, rather than to record it herself.

That's funny! I ran this through Google translate, (I know I'm a block for not thinking of it right away! ) And it says the last line translates to :RuthieG wrote:Mi dispiace che non parlano l'italiano.
Does it just seem so to me, or were you critiquing her Italian?I'm sorry you do not speak Italian
-Hitha.
I managed to fake it, anyway. Fortunately "1923" is the same in both Italian and English (American English, anyway. Brits probably stick a "u" in there somewhere.)RuthieG wrote:You didn't understand my amazing Googlitalian? (Jim did.)

Oh dear.. Perhaps that's why she didn't come back. *shakes fist* 0/10 for Google Translate when it does this to me:Hilara wrote:That's funny! Yeah, that 2nd sentence should've done the job...
Anyway, what about it, Ruth? Can we do Totem and Taboo?

It looks like it. Published New York: 1919. Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) Translator: Abraham Arden Brill (1874–1948).Hilara wrote:Anyway, what about it, Ruth? Can we do Totem and Taboo?
From a European point of view: the original is not PD in Europe until next year. The translator is described as "Austrian born American psychologist" so I don't think any of us Europeans could do the translation. Tricky one. Does he count as Austrian (in which case we couldn't) or American (in which case, the Rule of the Shorter Term would presumably apply).
You should be OK though? (copyright in India death+60?)

YES! I'd love to! And maybe I can persuade Neeraja to help me... She loves it when I go into psychology-mode!
-Hitha.
The book scan is on the Internet Archive at http://www.archive.org/details/totemtabooresemb00freu
That scan actually shows the publication date, so may be preferable to the Wikisource.
And when you've finished that, you can get on with Freud's
Three contributions to the sexual theory (1910)
Psychopathology of everyday life (1914)
The interpretation of dreams (1915)
Wit and its relation to the unconscious (1916)
or Brill's own Psychoanalysis, its theories and practical application (1922)
Now that should keep you busy.

Actually, there is LOADS of psychology on the Internet Archive. There are more translations of Freud by G. Stanley (Granville Stanley) Hall, (1844-1924) and a fair bit of Hall's own work.
