Hello, I am Eunah Choi.
I tried to download some LibriVox recordings today from the LV catalog, but my Internet Explorer and FireFox keep displaying only 404 "Page Cannot be Found" error whenever I type the URL of either the LV main page or the LV catalog search page.
And while browsing the LV forums, I also discovered that the Magic Window cannot be accessed, either. Those same problems are also being observed in iOS. I am worried about what happened to LV.
Is there anything wrong with LV? Or is LV going through just a regular period of server maintenance? To be precise, the only LV-related pages I can access for now are:
- LibriVox Wiki(http://wiki.librivox.org)
LibriVox Forums(http://forum.librivox.org)
I am trying to enter the LV website from Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.
Thank goodness I can still visit the LV forums without any trouble, so here I can report this error.
I would appreciate if someone on the Admin team can have a look at this problem.
Thanks in advance.
In South Korea,
Eunah Choi

Hmm. As of 9pm Pacific time, everything seems to be working fine in Safari and Firefox.

Hello Eunah,
It's working fine for me, too (in The Netherlands). So the problem is not central - which is good for most people, but not so good for you. Perhaps they are blocked in your country? But don't know why that would happen now and not before...
Sorry, I have no helpful suggestions...

Can you reach http://archive.org, Eunah? It is known that South Korea does block access to some sites, mainly ones which have illegal content. That obviously should not apply to LibriVox, but sadly sometimes we may get wrongly blocked by some governments.

Hi, Ruth,
Luckily, I can reach archive.org main page and all of the subpages of that website without any problems, so I decided to settle for downloading LV audiobooks from the archive.org site directly for now.
However, what's really odd is that I've been getting blocked from entering the LV main page, every LV catalog page, LV uploader and magic window since Mar 19, 2016, 9:00 PM Korean Standard Time.
Every web browser inside all the devices in my possession give me the same 404 error whenever I try to visit any LV-related page, except the LV forums and the LV Wiki.
I don't know what to do about it.
Anyway, I will have to use a work-around involving archive.org to download LibriVox audiobooks.
Ah, if I only could access the elegantly-designed LV catalog page just as I had been doing for years...!

I do find it curious, though, that you can access some parts of librivox.org and not others. I'd think that if the domain were blocked by censorship, the whole domain would be unavailable. I have no way of finding out why this isn't the case.

Oh yes, try that, Eunice! There is another LibriVoxer who is in South Korea, and she doesn't seem to be having any problems.

Hello,
IP address for librivox.org is 208.70.31.70
IP address for wiki.librivox.org is 208.70.31.71
I guess 208.70.31.70 is in the black list or out of the white list.
There're several alternative catalogs.

How about using them?
Cheers,

Thanks for all of your concern, everyone. I am happy to report that I can enter all parts of the LV website smoothly now! Thank you so much!

Have you cleared your cache and browsing history? Also a reboot of your computer isn't a bad thing.
Oh, that's the very thing I tried just a few minutes ago, thinking that it was the last resort, and then everything began to work fine. I deleted all the
temporary Internet files by going to the Tools menu, and then Internet options, then I checked the box named "Temporary Internet Files", restarted IE11, and wow! I can access all parts of the LV website without any hassle. Thank goodness!
I leave this message on the forums in case something similar happens again to another South Korean and maybe my post can be even just a little help to my fellow citizens.
Thanks.
