What I usually do is (for example, if I was looking for Pilgrim's Progress) 'pilgrim s progress' and what I'm looking for usually comes up. Otherwise, I get the same error message.

If you leave a space between the word and the part after the apostrophe it works. Some books the apostrophe works and some it doesn't--perhaps it depends on how the cataloging MC or whoever does the title typed it in? I.E., if they used the ' it lets you search for it, but if they used the other character it doesn't?

If it depends on the type of apostrophe/single quote, that would be dependent on how the soloist/BC entered it into the template. The MC doesn't retype it.

It appears that apostrophe does NOT work on the home page but DOES work from the 'same' search box in the upper right of the results page, or the AdvancedSearch page. That may explain why the exact same search seems to work some times but not others -- subsequent tries were probably from an inner page.

Other notes:

+1 for using Google

And, apostrophe seems to work directly at my site http://aplt1.com/results?title=bishop's+secret ... and might work at some of the other alternate catalogs.
Cheers,

Scott

Bah, exactly what Scott said:

Search from the home page: Uncle Tom's Cabin
An Error Was Encountered

The URI you submitted has disallowed characters.
Search from the search results page works fine.

Embarrassingly basic coding error, I imagine.

The issue with special characters being disallowed in searches is FIXED!

You can now get search results for terms using apostrophes, ampersands, and some other special characters.
