I'm working on the Wikipedia linking project and therefore looking at a number book pages. In addition to checking the links I've picked up some other problems:
http://librivox.org/autumn-leaves-original-pieces-in-prose-and-verse-by-various/ - The author name is spelt incorrectly; and the wikipedia link doesn't exist. http://familypedia.wikia.com/wiki/Anne_Wales_Abbot_(1808-1908) is the best link for the author.
http://librivox.org/shoes-and-stockings-a-collection-of-short-stories/ - The summary ends with "Summary by Carolyn Frances - I may want to add a little bit more later."
http://librivox.org/the-path-of-prosperity-by-james-allen/ - The title is incorrect it should be "TO Prosperity" and http://james-allen.in1woord.nl/?text=from-poverty-to-power is a better book link than the one given.
http://librivox.org/twilight-voices-by-william-allingham/ - The summary is a cut and paste of the publisher info page.

This part has been published under both names so when I looked at it at the time I left it as was. Its marked 2nd version. Sort of annoying I know but it's not the only book in the catalogue that has been published under different names. I'll leave it to the soloist re the link - we usually to to stick to Wiki links because the sites stay and we don't finish up with broken links everywhere.http://librivox.org/the-path-of-prosperity-by-james-allen/ - The title is incorrect it should be "TO Prosperity" and http://james-allen.in1woord.nl/?text=from-poverty-to-power is a better book link than the one given.

Are you talking about the text link for Path to Prosperity here? Wiki doesn't do text links.annise wrote:I'll leave it to the soloist re the link - we usually to to stick to Wiki links because the sites stay and we don't finish up with broken links everywhere.

Also, if I find a book with an incorrect title do I report it, or do I just ignore? I know fixing the URL is next to impossible, but we can still fix the text and data fields.
The author as currently reported for http://librivox.org/autumn-leaves-original-pieces-in-prose-and-verse-by-various/ DOESN'T EXIST. You probably also experience being called AnnA instead of Anne. Wikipedia has a habit of "creating new empty pages" rather than giving a 404 error, so that the link goes somewhere on wikipedia doesn't mean anything as to its correctness. There is no wikipedia link for the correct version of her name, hence the other version I've given.

Sorry - did you mean text link? I thought you meant book link
The text link is supposed to be what the reader read from so it usually isn't changed unless the site disappears.
It's fine to report things you think wrong , most of the time they can be fixed but sometimes they can't
for instance I have no idea why the URL says _various- but we are stuck with URLs - which can be really embarrassing if one makes a mistake when cataloguing

Let's try this again ...
http://librivox.org/the-path-of-prosperity-by-james-allen/ - you can chose to keep the link to the text that is on the page or change it. Sorry I used the wrong word in my initial post. A quick check of what was at the link would've cleared it up though.

Author name is incorrect. And there is no wikipedia page for the author under the wrong name or the correct name. An alternative author bio link is in the initial post.

The spelling "Abbot" used on our catalog page is the same as the text source, so I have not changed that (it is also listed as an alternate spelling on the author's Wikipedia page). I have added "Abbott" and "Anna" as alternate names in the database so that the author can be found on searches for those spellings. I have updated the Wikipedia author link (thanks, mahne).carteki wrote:http://librivox.org/autumn-leaves-original-pieces-in-prose-and-verse-by-various/ - The author name is spelt incorrectly; and the wikipedia link doesn't exist. http://familypedia.wikia.com/wiki/Anne_Wales_Abbot_(1808-1908) is the best link for the author.

Not sure how that got into the summary of the Fortnightly Poem, it wasn't in the archive page, I've removed the offending passage.carteki wrote:http://librivox.org/twilight-voices-by-william-allingham/ - The summary is a cut and paste of the publisher info page.

- I should have looked harder - seems she was the editor of the collection - so various was right.annise wrote: for instance I have no idea why the URL says _various- but we are stuck with URLs - which can be really embarrassing if one makes a mistake when cataloguing
ANNE W. ABBOT.The pieces gathered into this volume were, with two exceptions, written for the entertainment of a private circle, without any view to publication. The editor would express her thanks to the writers, who, at her solicitation, have allowed them to be printed. They are published with the hope of aiding a work of charity,—the establishment of an Agency for the benefit of the poor in Cambridge,—to which the proceeds of the sale will be devoted.
