Going through the RSS feeds I found a few errors:

Book 6144 (Dramatic Reader for Lower Grades) has an extra "<a>" tag in the <reader> section:
http://librivox.org/rss/6144; lineNumber: 29; columnNumber: 552; The element type "a" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</a>"

Book 5116 (Vlaemsche Dichtoefeningen by Gezelle, Guido) There is a garbled <a> tag in the middle of the <reader> section.
http://librivox.org/rss/5116; lineNumber: 437; columnNumber: 21; The element type "reader" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</reader>

Thanks!

Another little detail: The RSS URL for one of the books is not complient with RFC 3986, and doesn't work in many browsers. The URL is:

http://librivox.org/bookfeeds/oku-no-hosomichi-by-matsuo-bashō.xml

It probably should be:

http://librivox.org/bookfeeds/oku-no-hosomichi-by-matsuo-bash%C5%8D.xml

of maybe just:
http://librivox.org/bookfeeds/oku-no-hosomichi-by-matsuo-basho.xml

I fixed the second post - at least, the WP page. I don't know if it will automatically correct the RSS page. If not, once we get the catalog fixed (this one needs the Scraper treatment), it should be fixed then.

I have just finished going through the RSS feeds systematically, and found several errors. It is sort of a long list, and I am just going to post the book numbers rather than the names. If someone needs the names, let me know, and I can look them up.

The following books either have no RSS feed, or have an RSS feed that doesn't list the chapters. (I checked both sets of feeds - the ones that begins with /bookfeeds/ when they were listed for a particular book, and the ones that begin with /rss/ for all the books)

The following books have RSS feeds that contain invalid XML. (You can pull them up in a web browser and it will identify where the problem is. I use Chromium, but I think most other ones will do the same thing)

Sorry for the long lists, but I am sure that lots of people would like to be able to access these books as podcasts.

Working on these. With the recent server issues and slowness, it's a time consuming process, so I may only be able to fit in one or two a day. I'll mark them done in this post as I get to them.

I am working on submitting these. A large number of these RSS Feed errors and omissions are "fixed" with the implementation of the new software.

They may sit in the iTune quality control queue for take about a week before they become public.

It appears that the <itunes:image> element is no longer in the RSS. I found this to be true in every audiobook I tried.

Here's an example: http://librivox.org/rss/3593
previously contained:
<itunes:image href="http://www.archive.org/download/LibrivoxCdCoverArt9/Librivox_Short_Story_Collection_040_1105.jpg" />

The whole line is now missing.

Duke,

This one of a few things that dropped out during the software re-design. The software team is still working on the RSS feeds.

Duke,

The latest update to our Librivox software is causing an error with iTunes which is preventing submissions. It is not possible to submit any RSS feed new or old at this time.

It appears to be some sort of a server-to-server trust issue. The specific error when submitting a Librivox RSS feed states "We had difficulty reading this feed. sun.security.validaotr.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target"

Hi David,

There's really no need to involve the iTunes servers at all. The RSS <itunes:image> element doesn't actually use the iTunes server. The image value always has an address to a location at archive.org. The RSS can/is just be served back from librivox.org.

It would be really great to have this working soon.

Thanks for the update.

This appears to be unrelated to the other errors mentoned above:

These are example of how the titles appear in my feed reader (note the ...by).

From https://librivox.org/rss/latest_releases
Young Carthaginian, The by HENTY, G. A.
Two Destinies, The by COLLINS, Wilkie
Soul of Prayer, The by FORSYTH, P. T.
Blue Jar Story Book, The by Various Authors
And a separate issue, this is from the html source code at https://librivox.org/pages/librivox-feeds/

Code: Select all

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="LibriVox &raquo; Feed" href="https://librivox.org/feed/" />
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="LibriVox &raquo; Comments Feed" href="https://librivox.org/comments/feed/" />
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="LibriVox &raquo; LibriVox Feeds Comments Feed" href="https://librivox.org/pages/librivox-feeds/feed/" />
Two of those feeds appear to be inactive. And the other three active URLs listed on the viewable page aren't listed. Firefox use that information when one clicks on 'Subscribe to this page' from the bookmarks menu. Other feed readers use it as well.

But of course the links listed on the page can still be added "manually." :)
