I'm sure you guys are probably on top of this already, but since I didn't see it mentioned I wanted to make sure. The new forum doesn't seem to keep me logged in (as my addiction requires). Even navigating in other areas of the forum it will suddenly ask me to log in again, even though I've told it to keep me logged in and log me in automatically every time I come here.

It's happening on every computer and on my phone, too.

Just wanted to put in the ticket!

Thanks for all your hard work!

Dennis

Yep. The DNS servers worldwide have to refresh their caches (errr, their caches have to expire and reset). This could take a day or so. After that, all should work normally.

I feel your pain. I have the same issue. What I've been doing is navigating totally by the web page I'm on - no clicking on links in threads to take me to a different thread, no clicking my handy "new posts" bookmark but using the "view new posts" link on forums pages instead, etc.

I'm hoping it clears up soon!

My login problem cleared up about an hour ago, so maybe yours will soon too. Yesterday I found that if I bookmarked the forum index page after I logged on (with the sid number at the end of the URL), then navigated back to that same link (with sid number), it would work until I shut the computer down.

You all realize I had never even heard of a DNS server until I asked this same question yesterday... (still don't have a clue what it is )

Well, let me edjumacate you! 8-)

You know IP numbers? They look something like 192.244.108.045. Each web domain (such as forum.librivox.org) is assigned an IP number "address." The DNS server is what relates the IP address to the domain name. Image

(I could get all technical and tell you how those IP numbers are version 4, and are running out, and they're now going to IPv6, which is something like a 16 digit hexadecimal instead of a 12 digit "regular" number...)

Aha, I see. (I think.) Thank you! (And thanks for your help yesterday too.)

I had actually heard of hexadecimal, but I had to go look it up to know what it was.

Yeah, DNS servers are like a phone book, which an internet routing server can consult for an IP address, much like "I'm looking for Librivox.org, I don't know where it is, tell me where to find it".

I guess the DNS server checks at regular times whether the IP matches the URL, then updates its database.
