Deal all,

Today, while I was listening to "The picture of Dorian Gray" narrated by John Gonzalez, who has a great voice, I saw some mismatches:

First, this book has 20 chapters (on your site you have 13).
Chapter 3 from your site is in fact chapter 4 from book.
Chapter 4 is 6, 5 is 7, 6 is 8, 7 is 9 , 8 is 10 and so on untill chapter 12 from your site that is in fact chapter 14 in book. Then, chapter 13 is actually chapter 19.

So you dont have a person that reads the chapters: 3, 5, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20 from "A portrait of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.

Could you help, if you please ?

Thank you

Hi Anca,

as far as I know there are two different editions of "Dorian Gray". Wikipedia says this:
The Picture of Dorian Gray is the only published novel by Oscar Wilde, appearing as the lead story in Lippincott's Monthly Magazine on 20 June 1890, printed as the July 1890 issue of this magazine. Wilde later revised this edition, making several alterations, and adding new chapters; the amended version was published by Ward, Lock, and Company in April 1891.
So John was simply reading the "old" edition of this book, so it should be ok.

We do have a dramatic reading of the 20-chapter edition for download here:

Cheers, Ava.

I did not know that there are different editions.

Thank you very much for your quick answer and the address. It is very helpful.

Best regards,

Just a FYI, the version of this text used in most academic settings is the 10 chapter version. At the school my son goes to they listen to the book through a set of computer speakers while following along. I like the idea of listening to the audio books in class forcing everybody to hopefully pay attention.

Sorry to revive a 10-year-old thread, but I just noticed there is an error on the Librivox page for the John Gonzalez version of this book:

https://librivox.org/the-picture-of-dorian-gray-by-oscar-wilde/

The "online text" link points to the 20-chapter version,
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/174

but the recording is of the 13-chapter version, which is here:
