A recent reviewer on archive.org wrote:Even more annoying, EVERY chapter fades at the end, even though events are still occurring and clearly the reading is not over. It's frustrating to be following a story and have it quickly fade, only to be replaced by what sounds like a computer-generated voice saying, "This is a Librivox recording. All Librivox recordings are in the public domain," and then the following chapter number is read, and the reading resumes, leaving me to wonder how the previous chapter ended.
I have only downloaded a couple of chapters of this (15 and 21), but I notice that the volume does not decrease at the end at all. However, there is only two seconds of silence at the end of the chapters. Do you think that this may be the problem for this listener? If so, should we fix it?

EDIT: It was catalogued in early 2006, so presumably before the 5 seconds of silence were routinely added (presumably for this very reason).

It is probably the player the listener is using. This is the reason why we added the extra silence. Might be worth looking into if someone has the time.

It's a long time since I listened to Typee, but I can't remember having any problems like that.

No problems at all on my player either, but I remembered reading that some players or software chop off the last few seconds, which is why we now put 5-10 seconds of silence on the end of all files.

The Typee files appear to have a bare two seconds at the end, and no "End of Chapter X" either.

Does anyone remember which players cause this problem?

Oh, well! That would explain it then. Like Quicktime, it's not allowed to get its filthy little paws on my computer.

How about defining this problem as resolved and unstickfy the topic?
We do everything to provide the recordings in the best possible way, but we can't take every responsibility for lousy software. Adding silence to every chapter just because of the realplayer is IMHO too much to ask.

OK, destickied. It was really just there to remind me - I am gradually plodding my way through the chapters. :D
