The Basic Bible, Old Testament, translated by Samuel Henry Hooke (1874 - 1968)

Volunteers outside the USA: Samuel Henry Hooke died in 1968. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 50 years; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
The Old Testament, translated by an American committee lead by S.H. Hooke, using Basic English, a simplified English vernacular developed by linguist Charles Kay Ogden for use in teaching English to non-native speakers and as an international auxiliary language. Basic English utilizes a limited vocabulary of around 850 English words. (Summary by Mark Penfold)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Annise PM'd me for my input in the Abandoned Projects thread, but I see you posted this, so I'll share my thoughts here.

I think it's great you're taking these up to finish them off!

However, it is more work for the MC to use the same project thread for each book, then split them off to catalog separately. And the project thread, when looking at it in the future, would be confusing. Each cataloged work has its own separate project number / MW, so only the last one would show up in the thread after the project is fully cataloged. :hmm:

And, of course, the file names will all be different for the different cataloged projects.

The only reason there was one thread on the abandoned project is because the reader had fully intended to do the whole thing, did some of it (and random parts of different books, skipping around), so when it was abandoned, we had to figure out what to do with it. We decided to catalog the whole books and open up the others to new readers. But the intention was to make them separate projects - or at least, projects combining contiguous or "like" books (such as the minor prophets).

Does this make sense?

If you want to combine, say, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, I think that's OK. But since you're not doing the whole Old Testament here (or were you planning on starting again with Genesis and doing the WHOLE thing?) I suggest breaking it up into separate projects with separate project threads.

I certainly do not want to create more work for an already busy MC crew.

I wasn't planning to start over. But now that I'm thinking about it, I like that idea. Could I still use the 4 sections that Mark has already done?

I'll set it up as soon as I am quite clear I know exactly what to set it up for - I don't want to leave you with the wrong number of sections, Mark read Geneses and Exodus so we need Leviticus to Judas, Mark read Ruth

Anne

Thanks Lomond - I was going to PM you :D

Annise, I'm going to start at the Genesis, but also use the 4 sections that haven't been cataloged yet.

Could you double the number of sections I put in the template?

This is preliminarily set up. I'll work on transferring over the other, completed files.

Okay. This should be set up.

I've put Mark's files in the same section spots as originally. I've also renamed them (added an "a" to the section number portion, so 075 is 075a on these) in case you divide things up differently and have different section numbers, so they won't be overwritten by accident. They will go through the cataloging process fine this way, I think, but I could rename them once we know their final section numbers.

If it were me, I'd probably start with the incomplete books rather than at Genesis. That way if I got hit by a bus or something, the books that weren't already done would be more likely to BE done this time, and be cataloged. :P

Have fun!

I've filled in the MW and the files already added stayed in their place - so no further adjustments to names are needed. I duplicated Mark's file naming, so that will be the same as well.
