Source text (please read only from this text!): https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/47775

Target completion date:

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

We do strongly recommend that new readers start with a section in an existing project which has a BC doing all the work running it - that way you can concentrate on learning the reader's part first.
There are projects in the readers wanted forums that are waiting for you - some you pick a poem or short story or nonfiction. If poetry interests you there are weekly and fortnightly poems that are a good place to start - they are catalogued each week so you have the satisfaction of something completed.

Moving this to Book Suggestion until Luka is ready to start this.

To get the thread moved back, Luka, just post in the thread and an admin will move it to the Launch Pad for you.

You will need to wait for an MC before you upload any files, but I will move the thread back for you.

I will set this up for you. As the Book Coordinator for this project you will be responsible for updating the magic window. Just in case you don't know how to get in there, here is a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cDPSmlTjGM&t=99s If it just confuses you, just ask and I'll see what we can do. Looks like a fun project. :D

EDIT: If you do not have a DPL lined up, it is customary to advertise for one with a tilde ~ in front of the title.

I have accessed the Librivox Management Dashboard but I have no idea how to upload chapters on there yet because I don't have a way to do so. Here is the first chapter for the book here.

1) copy the link 2) open the Magic window 3) paste the link in the Listen Url column, press enter 4) In the Status column pick "Ready for PL"

Then it is best to make a post saying "Chapter 1 ready for PL" or something ike that so the DPL will be notified. Dat's it. I think. :D
I did chapter 1 as a sample for you.

Also, don't forget to add chapter titles into each section in the Magic Window, too. 8-)

How is it going Luka? Are you able to get into the magic window now? Do you need any help? I am moving his to Going solo and will post that we need a DPL.

Hello -

I would like to PL the first chapter. It doesn't look like anyone else has claimed it yet.

I would be reading from here: https://gutenberg.org/cache/epub/47775/pg47775-images.html#serve
(Just want to confirm that because the last thing I read turned out to be a mistaken link...)

Okay for me to proceed?

Ha. Sorry for that problem Betsy. The link for the text of any project will be in the first post. In this case it is https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/47775 so you should follow that. Note that this is standard proof listening, meaning that you do not necessarilly need to follow along with the text. It is helpful of course. If you have any questions about this, just ask. :D

Really good reading. Just a few notes:
• Audio file passes Checker specs.
• Introduction recorded for first chapter doesn’t meet specs exactly:
---“Chapter 1 They Also Serve of Kitty Carter, Canteen Girl by Ruby Lorainne Radford. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information or to volunteer, please visit librivox.org."
---I think it would have been clearer if the chapter number and title had been included at the end, as suggested in the Librivox specs.
• 4:00 – These two sentences are not broken correctly. “…soldiers and sailors were scattered about the green slopes, resting after their long march. At the duck pond Kitty…” Currently the reader makes it sound as if Kitty and her brother had been marching, not the soldiers.
• 5:19: “Let me get you one?” should be read as a question.
• 12:08: Written: “We have many mothers…” Recorded “We have mothers…”
• End has just one or two seconds of silence instead of five.
