Adrift in the Unknown; or Queer Adventures in a Queer Realm, by William Wallace Cook (1867 - 1933)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/adrift-in-the-unknown-or-queer-adventures-in-a-queer-realm-by-william-wallace-cook/

A delightful, imaginative, and sometimes silly adventure in early science fiction. Join a noble scientist and some of his less noble associates as they take flight in a newly constructed, seemingly magical spaceship. After they land on the planet Mercury, they are caught in the crossfire in a war between futuristic Mercurean city-states which wield high-tech weaponry. As they fight for their own survivial and that of their fellow humans, each man is challenged to confront his own moral failings. Set aside your 21st-century knowledge of physics and settle in for a lighthearted, somewhat predictable romp through outer space. (Summary by Amanda Rumbaugh)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I can set this up for you.

Edit: I strongly recommend shortening the file name! adriftintheunknown would be a good choice, but it's up to you.
Do you have a DPL lined up?

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks, Lynne!
Ah, great point...that file name is kind of ridiculous. :D Can I just shorten the file name by saving the uploads as adriftintheunknown_##_cook_128kb.mp3, or do I need to officially edit it somewhere else?

I don't have a DPL lined up yet -- hoping someone might be willing to jump on board. :)

Thanks,
Amanda

I'd recommend editing the file name in the first post... it's not strictly necessary, but acts as a reminder 8-) Before you've uploaded any files, you can choose anything, but once you have started, it gets complicated.

I've finished chapters 1 and 2, so they're uploaded and ready for prooflistening.
Until there's a DPL on this project, I'm just going to keep recording and uploading as I complete sections! :)

Thanks,
Amanda

Hey! Yes, I do :)
I'm trying to work on a couple chapters each week, though I've hit a busy patch at work this month and had to pause. But hopefully that general rhythm will have this project completed by the end of the fall.

Just as a brief update -- my microphone broke, so that's why I've been silent for a couple weeks. But a new one is coming and I'm about to jump back into recording, hopefully by next weekend.
Happy October!

Chapter 5 is good But in chapter 6 at 6:30 you stumble over a word and there is a bit of a pause after along with a long pause at 7:24-7:28.

Ah, thanks for catching that! Both those errors should be fixed now.
