No. 17, by Joseph Jefferson Farjeon (1883 - 1955)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/no-17-by-joseph-jefferson-farjeon/

Volunteers outside the USA: Joseph Jefferson Farjeon died in 1955. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 50 years; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
A thriller about a down-and-out sailor finding his way in London. The book followed a successful play that was filmed by Alfred Hitchcock, and even made into a silent film. Its humour is irresistible. (Summary by Czandra)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I asked my librarian about the noise, and she said, "no one would come here
if they weren't allowed to talk out loud." So I read out loud.

Hello Harithaha:

You need to submit a one-minute test to ensure your recording values are right. This particular project is not open to other readers, unfortunately, since it is a solo recording I'm planning to do myself. I recommend you get your feet wet by reading short pieces in group projects first, then branch into solos.

Please send your one-minute test to: viewforum.php?f=21

Thanks
Czandra

I'll MC this and get the MW set up in a little while.

EDIT: It's set up. I enjoyed the first chapter in the anniversary collection so much, I'll DPL as well. 8-)

Chapter 1 still has the 17th anniversary intro.

Ch 2: "No. 17 by J. Jefferson Farjeon, chapter 2" should be "Chapter 2 of No. 17 by J. Jefferson Farjeon" (reason being, we want the chapter number first so people can quickly scan by sound which chapter they're on.)

Same for chapters 3-7.

It's probably okay, since the book name is so short, but it would be better if the chapter number were the first thing. :hmm: Would you be willing to change them?

Now, if I had any idea what was going on...

Indeed, foggy i'n't it? one can imagine it on stage. I get a kick out of reading the words for a silent movie, which this also became at one point.

All are reloaded and should be same times except 1, which is now 12:02.5

And that will be the last one for a few days until I get established in Muskoka again. The introduction of the female presence has a civilizing influence on Ben I notice - his voice changes when she's in the picture. Meanwhile Fordyce's accent has inexorably evolved from fake British to something nearer Ben's, as his involvement in the underworld unfolds! I hope it's not too noticeable. Me, I'm just channelling!
