Which is the Man?, by Hannah Cowley (1743 - 1809)
"Oh! Lord Sparkle! - Who can resist the gay, the elegant, the all-conquering Lord Sparkle? The most distinguished feather in the plume of fashion - without that barbarous strength of mind which gives importance to virtues or to vices. Fashionable, because he's well drest: - Brilliant, because he's of the first Clubs, and uses his borrowed wit like his borrowed gold, as tho' it was his own." A delightful comedy by a quite successful woman playwright.
(Summary by ToddHW)
Let us party and make merry! NOTE: hopefully your merriment will not be dulled by the fact that this script has the old style "f"s for "s"s throughout. You can handle it - trust me!

See the nice things that Kitty's Lady Bell says about me in the summary above? Hopefully her DPL duties will not give her time to change her mind and stick a perhaps deserved knife in my back. (Just to confuse, Kitty is not playing Kitty. Got that?)

Gender neutral, of course, but dressing fancy is required for the big act 5 party scene.

Thank you.

(Thanks actually to Sonia - having a DPL onboard is the most critical item required for a good play experience!)

I can't believe I again have to grease your ego in this one Todd...I need to be more careful what roles I choose

But I won't change my mind: Lady Bell and DPL (that rhymes, so it can't be wrong)

ah another society fop  you play them to perfection, Alan, thank you. What blunders will he commit throughout the play I wonder.

A few small notes this time:

> at 0:22: (p. 15) repeat "is this gentleman..." – you can cut one "is" at the beginning

> at 2:21: (p. 16) "that it is the most ungenteel thing in the world" – I think you say "ungentle", which is a bit of a difference in nuance, if I'm not mistaken

> from 5:11 to 5:15: (p. 18) between "Capital" and "never mount to a phrase" – you can cut the lengthy pause, it's all the same quote

> at 5:50: (p. 18) between "a nod" and "one may" – here you could leave a bit more space for the stage directions

thank you

Pendragon act 2 revised

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/whichistheman_pendragon_2.mp3

I don't see Pendragon as a fop, more a slightly uncouth countryman from Cornwall who is new to London and comically misunderstands the manners and etiquette of London society.

true, my mistake, "fop" is not the correct word, but the way you describe him was what I wanted to convey as well. I used the wrong word.

Act 2 is now PL ok. Excellent editing. Thank you

Here is the young widow, out for a good time:

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/whichistheman_ladybell_2.mp3
Recording time: 4:06 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/whichistheman_ladybell_3.mp3
Recording time: 3:09 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/whichistheman_ladybell_4.mp3
Recording time: 4:01 min.

https://librivox.org/uploads/toddhw/whichistheman_ladybell_5.mp3
Recording time: 5:34 min.

Lord Sparkle will be very surprised at the end, that all the flattery and frivolity was only show to get to the heart of the man she really loves  Sorry Todd, that my final comment to you will not be anywhere near the "king among men" repertoire....

Well, you are the saucy one! I fear no one will remember that I have been in the play at all in scenes wherein you speak. Very well done. All PL OK.

Thank you for the nice review. Saucy is what I was aiming for (I think... :hmm: ) in any case I had a good time recording this.
