Nine Sci-fi Stories by Poul Anderson, (1926 - 2001)

This project is now complete and in our catalog at https://librivox.org/nine-sci-fi-stories-by-poul-anderson/
'Industrial Revolution': Workers in a distant miner's facility plot emancipation from Earth. The military might have some say in the matter.
'Captive of the Centaurianess': A scientist, a warrior princess and a Martian walk into a bar. And revolutionise space travel.
'What Shall it Profit?' A mysterious, underground research facility is discovered. Does it hold the key to eternal life? Or much deeper consequences?
'The Virgin of Valkarion': In a Rome-like empire, a barbarian encounters a warlord with a scheme to overthrow the empire, and a princess that wants to stop it. 'Catalysis': Mutiny brews on a long-distance spaceship. Are they all going to die?
'World of the Mad': A scientist's wife keeps having terrifying visions. Is it the planet or is it just her?
'Innocent at Large' (Written with Karen Anderson): When attempting to scam an experienced deep space explorer, one must be careful.
'Witch of the Demon Seas': A warrior with a vanquished army. Across the dangerous seas to reclaim his fame!
'Sargasso of Lost Starships': A general with a vanquished army. Into the dangerous void to reclaim his fame! (Summary by the reader)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I will come up with a fancier blurb for the final upload. This is like a clean-up for the Anderson that hasn't been done yet. I considered calling it 'The Lesser Works of Poul Anderson', or 'There's A Reason Nobody's Done These Works by...', but I thought that might not go down so well...

Anyway, I make a chapter a week and put it on my Soundcloud channel as an episodic thing. I would think that that would be the pace of production with only occasional pauses. (I might slot in some random short stories to the channel and put them in the 'Short Collections'). I will let listeners decide the order, so I will fill that in accordingly.

The Eight stories are listed in the description. They're all on Gutenberg and all come from magazines. Seems neat and tidy to put them in as one project, rather than feed them to the Short Collections. Make sense?

Makes sense to me. I will set this up for you. :D I put a tilde ` in front of the title to advertise for a proof listener. I suggest you start each story with "story number 1 of ..."

I can make the chapter introductions whatever you think important. However, my inclination is that it would become unwieldy with another clause. I was going to make the track intros:

Section [1-30] of 'Eight Sci-fi Stories by Poul Anderson. [Story Title] Part [X]. This Librivox... etc.

But if you think I should put 'Story [X]' before [Story Title], then I will.

No, your method is fine. This is just a hangover from earlier days when we used to find that tracks got mixed up on some playback machines and so tried to tell the listener what chapter/part/story t hey are listening to at the very beginning. But that is probably not a problem any more now that we have electricity most everywhere. Technology has moved along.

A few pointers on doing a solo. First, I need the text link. It should have been in your first post after "Source text (please read only from this text!):" under the description.

When you upload chapters, drop a note in the thread so I get notified. Just a "Section X ready for PL" is fine. Otherwise I may miss them, as I did the first 6 sections.

When you enter a chapter link in the MW, include the running time under Notes, and change the Status flag to Ready for PL. I'll update the flag after I PL.

I'll get up to date as soon as I get the text.

Cheers!

Yes Wayne, we need the text links to each story so put them into the first post with the title and link. I should have noticed this before but just overlooked. Be certain the stories are in the public domain.

By Wayne, do you mean me? My name is Edmund Bloxam...

Yes, all from Gutenberg. The purpose of putting these eight together was 'the eight on Gutenberg that are not already on Librivox'. I know that that is pretty much the only approved source on Librivox.

In fact, I quite like that order. It alternates sensible with goofy.

I had two more tracks to post tomorrow, so I hadn't written anything else yet, but, yes, I can post something in future. Should be fairly regular on Monday, for reference though.

It seems I miscalculated at the beginning. I need four extra tracks.

Certainly, I will add four more tonight tonight. (We call them 'sections' for uniformity) About the text source, Each source should be in the first post under where it says "Source Text". Also the link should be to the first page in Gutenberg; for example What Shall it Profit would be https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/59498. So just move your list to the first post and change these and it will be fine. Ask if anything is confusing. Lots of great stores there. !

Please review the format for the intro's in the first post. Should be: Section X of Eight Sci-fi Stories by Poul Anderson [LV disclaimer] Eight Sci-fi Stories by Poul Anderson Story Title [part x]

Stumble at 00:34 He fancies himself
