The Portrait of Mr. W. H., by Oscar Wilde (1854 - 1900)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-portrait-of-mr-w-h-by-oscar-wilde/
Wilde's short story about an attempt to uncover the identity of Mr. W. H., the dedicatee of Shakespeare's sonnets, was first published in Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine in 1889. He intended to publish an expanded version of the story as a separate book, a plan that was not realized until after his death. This audiobook is based on the expanded version.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Rob
I can DPL this for you.
I don't know this story so would like to hear it. :)
I am a big OW fan, I have even visited his former rooms at Magdalene College.

Chapter 2 is PL OK!

I had not previously heard the suggestion that Willie Hughes was Mr W.H. but Wilde makes an interesting if somewhat complex case. :hmm:

Chapter 3 is PL OK!

This chapter gives a lot of interesting detail about the use, or misuse, of child actors in the Elizabethan theatre :D
