The Workers - An Experiment in Reality: The East by Walter A. Wykoff (1865 - 1908)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be downloaded from the catalog page

https://librivox.org/the-workers-an-experiment-in-reality-the-east-by-walter-a-wyckoff/

A young scholar, recently graduated from Princeton College, travels across the United States as a member of the working class, taking any job he could find, enduring hardships and struggling to make a living. He travelled mainly on foot, designing for himself a social experiment on experiencing different class and culture structures and the reality of working conditions at the end of the 19th century. This volume covers the Eastern part of the United States.( Phyllis Vincelli)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/64400
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Sections 3 - 5 now ready. I'm in heaven with this book as the subject is so interesting to me - I feel like I found a hidden gem! I will soon set up his other volume on The West to read next.
