An Anglo-American Alliance: A Serio-Comic Romance and Forecast of the Future by Gregory Casparian (1855 - 1947).

Described by io9 as “the first lesbian science fiction novel,” An Anglo-American Alliance is a quasi-farcical tale of love, transformation, and geopolitics set in the far-flung futuristic year of 1960. In it, the titular Anglo-American Alliance has established itself as the world government, ushering in new age of technological and social revolutions. However, even in this halcyon period, the “love that dare not speak its name” remains an anathema. The novel’s central narrative follows the long-burgeoning but secret romance between two women at a ladies’ seminary school in Cornwall: Margaret MacDonald and Aurora Cunningham.Throughout this tale, we follow their trials and tribulations as they grapple with secret longings and learn how to harness the powers of science and technology to make their dreams come true.

Note: Despite its fairly progressive views on sexuality and gender identity, this novel is nevertheless a byproduct of the period in which it was written. This book contains unfortunate moments of ethnocentrism and casual racism that might offend certain listeners. ( ChuckW)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MW coming up.

Edit: I suggest using the full title only in the first intro and book ending statements. Enjoy.

Hi Chuck,

The intro silence on chapter 1 is just a little short, so you might like to add a little to that. it should be 0.5. 1 second long and this is just a touch under 0.5

Other than that, no other edits to make. :D

The wording is a bit confusing but the silence should be "no more than 0.5 to 1 second." I would though recommend some silence at the beginning of the recording.

Oh noooooo! I thought I'd swooped in, intercepted, and deleted all trace of that recording before you found it. I'm so sorry.

So, uh... I was really dissatisfied with my recording of Chapter 1 and deleted it from the MW (obviously not fast enough). I also completely redid it from scratch and am much happier with this version. I'm so sorry, but would it be possible to use this version instead?

I'm really, really sorry about this. Blame my anxiety for making me fixate on tiny things in these recordings nobody else notices.

I have no issue with listening again, although i will do that tomorrow probably. The first one sounded great to me though :D

and that was my fault by the way. i saw you had posted it, then thought you had forgotten to put the link in the mw so found it by using the preface link and changing the number

Haha. No worries. The fault is all mine -- I'll try to be more communicative about my stupid anxiety brain in the future. And yes, I realize many of the things that drove me about that original recording couldn't be detected by most people. I clearly have a real issue.

Anyway, please take your time. Chapter 2 is recorded, but still needs to be edited. Spoilers: I have to do an Irish accent in this one (all written phonetically) and it's terrible.

Chapter 01 PL notes

2:28 - 2:38 'The whole universe is so, and so every...' is repeated a couple of times here

2:47 'each thing being a half and suggesting its complement.' is missing

By the way, would you prefer standard or word perfect pl? I know it says standard in the first post but i know that some don't like to advertise for word perfect in case no one wants to pl  I'm happy to do word perfect PL if you would like.

Also, I'm not soo sure what happened but at around (i think) 09:39 the quality of recording changes. It's not a huge deal as I probably only noticed it because i had my headphones turned up quite high but from 09:39 onwards i could hear kind of a crackling noise.

I wouldn't say that it is unbearable/not to librivox standards but i thought you might like to know as it differs from the quality beforehand.
