We by Yevgeny Zamyatin (1884 - 1937). Translated by Gregory Zilboorg (1890 - 1959)

Volunteers outside the USA: Gregory Zilboorg died in 1959. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies.
D-503 is a single note in the vast orchestra of the United State, a totalitarian nation ruled by mathematical perfection. As he walks the glass sidewalks and documents his life in records addressed to the reader, D-503 worries that he might be developing something called a "soul." We is considered to be the direct inspiration of Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, among other staples in science fiction and dystopia. Its treatment of technological advancement and individuality will not be lost on the modern reader. (Roger Serling)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://gutenberg.org/ebooks/61963
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

    BC Admin
  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Chapter [number] of We. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"We, by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Translated by Gregory Zilboorg. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Translated by Gregory Zilboorg. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of We, by Yevgeny Zamyatin. Translated by Gregory Zilboorg."

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename we_##_zamyatin_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. we_01_zamyatin_128kb.mp3)
  • Example ID3 V2 tags
    Ignore Tags

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: Leni
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

    Any questions?

Just so that you know, this will be version 2 since another soloist is close to finishing this project.

This doesn't mean you can't read it, but some people prefer to choose books that have not yet been read. :D
Cheers, Ava.

Ah, I see the version by mleigh. Even so, I think I'd still like to pursue the book as a solo project. :)

Your project is set up, Roger! I think this is your first solo, right? If so, you are also the coordinator of your own project. That means you are responsible for filling in the window in the first post with the information and with the links as you record.

Here is a file that will explain to you how to log in for the first time in the window. You will have a password for that which is NOT your forum password, it is a separate one: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Also, here is some information on how to update the window: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Soloists:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

Don't worry, it is not very complicated, I am sure you will get the hang of it. But if you have any doubts, please don't hesitate to ask! Also, I will leave this project here in the Launchpad a bit to see if we find a Dedicated Proof-Listener, interested in Proof-Listening your recording. Later, this thread will be moved to the Going Solo area.

Happy recording!
Leni

Hello Leni,

Thank you for stepping in! Yes, this will be my first solo; I'll go through the Magic Window set-up and get everything ready to go.
