Two Pastorals: an Heroic and a Comic by Molière (1622 - 1673). Translated by Henri van Laun (1820 - 1896)
Moliere, on the way to the Ballet of the Muses, a court festival, started to write a new Heroic Pastoral. "He chose for his subject a similar one to the history of Florizel and Perdita in Shakespeare's Winter's Tale…. The charm of his writing, the exquisite delicacy of the sentiment, and the freshness of the pastoral scenes, cause us to regret that Moliere wrote only the first two acts of this play and never finished it." Though it was performed this way in Dec 1666 - so maybe there is enough here to enjoy.

The Pastoral Comedy which follows it was performed as part of the Ballet of the Muses in Jan 1667 - "most likely replaced the unfinished Melicerte". We only have a script for a number of the scenes; Moliere supposedly destroyed the rest.

This project is complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page at: https://librivox.org/two-pastorals-an-heroic-and-a-comic-by-moliere/
  • We're getting pretty close to the bottom of the barrel of Moliere plays. These are both incomplete fragments though with some scenes fully worked out. The first one with two acts at least gets a name; the second is nameless.

Gender neutral. Kitty will take time off from tending her sheep and casting magic spells to DPL your efforts.

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/dramaticworksmol02moliiala#page/295/mode/1up That link takes you to Melicerte; the next play in the book is the Comic Pastoral which can be found directly by going to https://archive.org/stream/dramaticworksmol02moliiala#page/321/mode/1up
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Supposing I take the Three Magicians Role and layer myself with myself? :hmm:

EDIT: And, you know, myself.

Actually, I'd prefer you not layer the part. Sonia's magician will also be speaking those lines, and too many overlays may get hard to understand. So just one voice for the three magicians will be fine.

Thanks, Todd

Oh, I see! Ok, I didn't realize someone else would be speaking along with them. Then, yes, that would be too much.

checking in as DPL, Eroxène and Magician. And you already answered my question...so I'll be speaking in chorus with Devorah, and not only do the parts where it's one magician alone. Got it

Thanks
