The Mountebank by William John Locke (1863 - 1930).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-mountebank-by-william-john-locke/
Andrew Lackaday, an English orphan, was born and brought up in a French circus. He becomes a highly skilled mimic and juggler. He plies his trade all round the country in company with his assistant Elodie, a Marseillaise. The Great War comes and he excels himself as a soldier, ending up as a Brigadier General.
After the war, he has no option but to return to his old profession only to find that everything has changed post war.
The book follows his changing fortunes.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/8430
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Simon,
The bitrate on the file is 192kbps not the required 128kbps. Just export the file again from your recording software and upload it to our server with the same file name.

3 PL OK.

We have been ordered to "stay at home" until April 7th. Walks are permitted as long as one keeps 2 meters away from non-housemates.
