The Epistles of John by Young's Literal Translation ( - ). Translated by Robert Young (1822 - 1888)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/epistles-of-john-ylt/

A literal translation that holds as closely as possible to the original language and idioms. (KevinS)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/youngsliteraltranslationoftheholyscriptures1898/page/n773
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Greetings -

Would you believe...?

Lomond has one point that needs attention. TIME: 02:16 TEXT: "thee! salute thee do the friends" Reading has the word "to" instead of "do".

Otherwise, PL OK.

Kevin,

Have you thought about grouping this with 1 and 2 John? Lot of the Bible projects do that since they are all such short books.

Would this be hard to do? Would I start a new project and re-record 3 John, dropping this recording? What would the Intro sound like?

You can certainly add to this project.

Maybe the intro to the first section is "Section 1 of the epistles of John", and then you go on to give the section title (1 John chapter a-b) later in the intro. For 2 John, you can use the same intro as you did for 3 John, since they are both one chapter books. I don't see that you have to introduce the 2 and 3rd Epistle as "Section 5 of the Epistles of John". The key is that a listener know right away what section they are listening to, and if you introduce them with the book title, then it's pretty clear where they are. Maybe modify the outro to 3 John to say "end of the epistles of John" rather than simply end of 3 John.

I can adjust the info in the catalog record and rename the 3 John section when I catalog to be consistent with whatever you use for the rest of the project.

Thank you. I'll work this out with your gracious help. I see now that my role-model in this---Mark Penfold---did this same combination in one of the translations he read for LibriVox.

I haven't heard from lomond, but I know he is a busy man. I don't think he will mind this grouping of the Epistles from John in one place.

I hope, if possible, this could be opened as a group project. If this is not possible or advisable, than I will be happy to do the other two books.

1John is not so long that it can't be done in one sitting, so to speak. That's one reason why I have not made more than these three sections.

As far as I can tell, the intros should be quite easy, but I don't know how this would be cataloged as were the other groupings of NT books.

Many thanks for your idea that this could be done. And much appreciation for your help!
