The Sylph by Georgianna Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757 - 1806).

Georgianna Cavendish, duchess of Devonshire was one of the leading ladies of her time. There for, her novel, which contains many autobiographical elements, has been published anonymously. The author was thought to have been Sophia Briscoe, a contemporary novelist, or Fanny Burney, author of Evelina which was published at about the same time. However her knowledge of the tun soon gave her away and, privately, the duchess admitted she is in deed the author. This is the story of Julia Grenville, a welsh beauty who marries an older man. She very quickly discovers her husband is a libertine and a rake, and that she has no idea how to behave in London society. Yet she has a sylph, a man who watches over her and gives her advice. The novel shows London society in a scathing manner, and teaches us that even in the darkest times there are good people along the way. ( Stav Nisser.)

Hi Amy,
what a nice surprise. Thank you so much. Yes, I make it a point to find forgotten women authors. I think it is my contribution to the world to get their books recorded. I will divide the sections tomorrow, very late here. Then we will see about wordcounts. Perhaps I can do them. I will let you know tomorrow evening. Good night,
Stav.

I will keep an eye on this one. I enjoyed reading for Lady Barton. I may like to take part in this, too. And I agree, you are finding some very cool books!

I don't think I've read for one of your projects before, but be glad to take the letters from Lord Bidolph - quite a character!

I've at least skimmed through his letters, so I know what I'm getting into.

I would be happy to take on Henry's role, though is he a young man still? (I don't think I sound young in the least bit.)

Would you want to suggest someone else?
