Whom We Shall Welcome: Report of the President's Commission on Immigration and Naturalization (1953).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/whom-we-shall-welcome-by-the-presidents-commission-on-immigration-and-naturalization/
The President of the United States [Truman] established the President's Commission on Immigration and Naturalization [in 1952]. . . . He directed the Commission "to study and evaluate the immigration and naturalization policies of the United States" and to make recommendations "for such legislative, administrative, or other action as in its opinion may be desirable in the interest of the economy, security, and responsibilities of this country." This Report is the result of the Commission's study, and contains the recommendations for an immigration policy best suited, in its judgment, to the interests, needs, and security of the United States.

"The bosom of America is open to receive not only the Opulent and Respectable Stranger, but the oppressed and persecuted of all Nations And Religions; whom we shall wellcome to a participation of all our rights and priveleges, if by decency and propriety of conduct they appear to merit the enjoyment." George Washington, December 2, 1783.

NOTE: Written in the early 1950s, this report contains terms and attitudes not culturally acceptable today (such as using the term "colored" for a segment of the population). (Summary modified from the text)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
      .
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
      .
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
      .
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/whomweshallwelco00unit/page/n5
      .
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

You sure? You posted before I filled in the whole MW. There might be a couple sections more interesting to you. ;)

Hahaha! I looked ahead. I'll probably do Chapter 16 if the project drags. (But I don't think it will! As silverquill says, 'Timely!')

May I greedily claim all 6 sections of Part 3, (#9 to #14)? I realize it's a lot, but as the project is just starting out, and we have 2 months to work with, I am sure I can get them done in that time.

Well, some types of greed are really nice in a project like this.
I'm not quite that ambitious, but could I also take 31-33?

(Maybe I could read the list of witnesses for an insomnia collection).
