Cherry Ames Island Nurse by Helen Wells (1910 - 1986).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/cherry-ames-island-nurse-by-helen-wells/

Volunteers outside the USA: Helen Wells died in 1986. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies.

A private duty nursing case takes Cherry Ames to a remote Canadian island, where a mystery surrounds a mining operation.

The Cherry Ames series stars a mystery-solving nurse, in the lines of Nancy Drew. The 27 books in the series (1943-1968) were written by Helen Wells and Julie Tatham. (Summary by Maria Therese)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39076002789936&view=2up&seq=12
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

PL notes Chapter 1:

You did a really nice job!
There are a couple of issues that need to be fixed.

First, the sampling rate is incorrect - it should be 44.1 kHz (44,100 hz). If you need help fixing that, let me know.

At the end, in the outro you said "End of A Call From Dr. Fortune". It should be just "End of Chapter 1". We also need 5 seconds of silence at the end of the file.

If you could fix these issues and reupload using the same file name, that would be great!

Corrected this :)

Also corrected this (got as close to 5 seconds of silence as I could) :)

If you could just put me as 'HappyBanz' for the catalog page that'd be peachy. Here's the new link (time = 12:37):

Well, these issues are now correct, but we have a couple other technical problems now! :-)
This file is in stereo, and we need it in mono. The bit rate is 320kbps, and we need it in 128kbps.

If you could fix the new problems and reupload, that would be great!

OMG! Sorry to be such a pain... I had recorded something else before exporting with the previous corrections. Hence the changed bitrate and stereo output. I definitely changed the bitrate back, and I believe it is now in mono again.

You are getting there! The bit rate is correct, but it is still in stereo. :-)

There is a little program you can use to check your files yourself before you upload:

Oh wow, I found the problem: It was the new ending I recorded that was in stereo, all other tracks were in mono. I split it into two mono tracks and deleted one of them.

Thank you for your patience.
