The Moon Maid by Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875 - 1950).

Sabotage accidentally takes Earth's first manned interplanetary expedition to the Moon, where a sublunar adventure ensues. ( Thomas A. Copeland)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/59752
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): wordperfect

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

    • Say:
"The Moon Maid, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of The Moon Maid by Edgar Rice Burroughs. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of The Moon Maid, by Edgar Rice Burroughs. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename moonmaid_##_burroughs_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. moonmaid_01_burroughs_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: Availle

Tom, we're ready to go, everything looks good!

Are you sure you'd want wordperfect PLing for this one?

Also: will you be doing the cover for this book as well? Then I'll have to put your name in the right spots. :D
Cheers,
Ava.

Oh! Word Perfect PL?

I hope not, or I withdraw my DPL offer.
Tried it once or twice, and it was not a good experience.
For something of a specialized nature, I might try it, but not with a long book like this. :?

I have always asked for a word perfect DPL and was always satisfied with the results. However, there are spots in this novel where the author's copy editor fell asleep, and it's easy to fix such blunders, so do please stay on board, silverquill.

will you be doing the cover for this book as well?
Yes, Availle, I do plan to make a cover.

If Silverquill still declines to be DPL, I volunteer as DPL. However if silverquill changes his mind and wants to do it I'll gladly back away.

Chapter 4 has been uploaded. Here is a sample of why less than word perfect PLing may be useful. At one point in this chapter the narrator describes shooting above the hostile warriors, quadrupeds which are running on all fours. It is certain that they are not standing erect, and yet the narrator reports shooting "over their hands." That would mean somewhere around their shin-bones. Naw! "Hands" and "heads" are similar enough that the type-setter may have confused the words and then the proof-reader confused them back again. I read "heads." Availle, if you disapprove, I will restore "hands," but this piece of fiction seems to me such a trifle that I can hardly imagine anyone's using my reading in any scholarly pursuit.

That's fine Tom - it's an obvious error and it's perfectly okay to correct those. I'm sure Betty has seen enough of these errors in her long service as DPL that she won't be mentioning them even in wordperfect PLing.
Cheers,
Ava.

Hi,
I've PL'ed the first three files and

The Prologue has a tiny glitch:

At 13:04 “another” is very soft in this sentence:
“..he said, “what I have never told another; but on the condition that if you retell it you are not to use my name.”

Everything else is great.

Chaps 1 and 2 are both PL OK!

More PL ing tomorrow.
