Doctor Dolittle's Post Office by Hugh Lofting (1886 - 1947).

While working in Africa, the eminent naturalist John Dolittle sets out to create the best post office on earth, using his bird friends to carry messages and packages anywhere in the world in record time. Along the way, he also manages to foil a slave trader, enrich a kingdom, save a ship, and meet the oldest living creature on earth! (Devorah Allen)
  • This project is complete! Please listen from the catalog: https://librivox.org/doctor-dolittles-post-office-dramatic-reading-by-hugh-lofting/

    1. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    2. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    3. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58947 Links to scripts will be in the MW. Please make sure you read from these scripts, to be sure we don't miss any lines!
    5. Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well.

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

      Casting will be gender neutral.

Finally, the long-anticipated third book of Doctor Dolittle's adventures!

(Book 2 is still in editing phase, but should be completed before we get to editing on this one.)

Most of the characters in this book are non-human, so this is a real opportunity to have fun with our voices and record something a little out of the ordinary!

Axcel is reprising his role as the Doctor, silverquill will once again be our narrator, and Elizabby is our DPL. (Also a huge thank you to Elizabby for helping to prepare scripts!!!) I will edit.

This link will take you to a description of the characters in this book and where they appear. Wherever applicable, we've tried to make a note of specific voice types required and whether or not you will be able to claim multiple characters together. Please ask if you need clarification on anything. :D

Thanks, Larry! It's always exciting starting up a new DR. :D

And now that we're officially in the launch pad, I'm going to let this sit here and simmer for a bit whilst I go off for my customary Sunday afternoon nap.

I am blind in one eye, so I think it appropriate for me to play the albatross. But, for the life of me, I cannot find his dialogue!

Hard to find when the scripts aren't up yet. He only has two lines or so, as far as I can recall. And I believe they were both lines that are written as the narrator. But I wanted us to have a One Eye, so I gave them to him. Anyway, I'll add links to scripts once we have a MW.

Since casting is gender neutral, may I have Gub-Gub? Love the name.
