HOLINESS: ITS NATURE, HINDRANCES, DIFFICULTIES, AND ROOTS by J. C. Ryle (1816 - 1900).
In this book JC Ryle strives to impart to the Christian reader a practical understanding of personal holiness, with faith in Christ being the foundation of all. As always, Ryle's strength is his ability to show how we can apply Scripture to our daily lives and why we should desire to. ( Tiffany Holmes)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/HolinessJ.C.Ryle1887/page/n1
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):

    • Say:
"HOLINESS: ITS NATURE, HINDRANCES, DIFFICULTIES, AND ROOTS, by J. C. Ryle. [Chapter]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of HOLINESS: ITS NATURE, HINDRANCES, DIFFICULTIES, AND ROOTS by J. C. Ryle. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"End of HOLINESS: ITS NATURE, HINDRANCES, DIFFICULTIES, AND ROOTS, by J. C. Ryle. "

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename holiness_##_ryle_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. holiness_01_ryle_128kb.mp3)
  • Example ID3 V2 tags
    Artist: J. C. Ryle

    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: Leni
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Kevin, just curious why the other source wouldn't work for Librivox? How did find the other source?

LibriVox requires the text to be clearly in the public domain. For the most part, books and whatnot published before 1924 (at the present time) are guaranteed to be free of copyright restrictions. For that reason, LibriVox uses texts that are marked with a publishing date of 1923 or earlier. The edition you found was published in 1952 (if I remember correctly) and that would be a problem.

Hello, Tiffany!

I have set the project up for you. As a soloist, you are your own BC, so you should keep your window. All the information about it can be found in this document. And, of course, feel free to ask any questions!

Please notice that I have changed the source from which you will be reading, according to Kevin's suggestion. I have also shortened the filename a bit.

We already have a DPL, so, as soon as you see it, we will be moving to the Going Solo forum.

Thanks for checking in with me. I am working on it slowly but surely.
My goal is to have it complete by the end of October.
I have done some reading and editing but haven’t uploaded yet.
I am sharing a microphone with a friend who is also recording audiobooks and I’m waiting to get it back next week.

Thanks,
Tiffany

If you have any that are read and edited, could you upload them so I can do the proof listening?
This will help identify any issues at the beginning, and will also be easier for me than having a whole bunch at once.
Really looking forward to hearing you!

~Larry

Larry - so sorry, I’ve had a family emergency and have been unavailable. I will have to push my book back a couple months. I might not get to it until December. I had some parts of the book read but it seems that I didn’t save the file so I’ll need to start that again.
Thanks for your patience.

That is just fine. Your solo, so do this at your pace.
If you can check in one a month, just so we know you're pursuing this, that would be good.
We'll be here.
