Man and His Ancestor: A Study in Evolution by Charles Morris (1833 - 1922).

This project was abandoned and is now open as a group project.

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/man-and-his-ancestor-by-charles-morris/
An examination of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and subsequent texts, written for the general public at the turn of the twentieth century, "[...] to dwell on the various significant facts that have been discovered since Darwin's time, and to offer certain lines of evidence never before presented in this connection and which seem to add much strength to the general argument.[...]"
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at the Magic Window below. All the ones without names in the Reader column are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    .
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    .
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    .
  4. Where do I find the text? Text source (only read from this text!): [/b] http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/28471
  5. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
  6. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

    .

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Welcome first-time BC
This project is now set up in the database. Since this will be your first project as soloist/book coordinator (BC), you will need to set up a password for access to the workflow system so you can enter the information into the section compiler which then appears in the "Magic Window" in the top post. Here are some links to detailed instructions for logging into the system and setting a password the first time, as well as for entering and editing information in the section compiler.

First Time Logging in to the Workflow

Instructions for BCs and DPLs
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kVj409nG_E0XJ5UrrcL7EVx7Qyx-2UQ7dbw4mINi3XQ/edit

A version of the above is also in the LibriVox wiki in case you can't access Google Docs for some reason.
https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/BC's:_How_to_update_the_Magic_Window

ID3 tags will be added during cataloging so you don't need to add them to your files.

If you have any questions, let me know. Sections can be added by you or deleted by me. I'll leave this thread here in the Launch Pad for a day or so longer before I move it to the Going Solo forum, to see if a DPL (Dedicated Proof Listener) volunteers. If you already have someone in mind as DPL just let me know.
I've added some information to the MW merely as a suggestion. Feel free to make changes (e.g. leave out chapter titles, shorten longer ones, use Arabic numbers not Roman numerals, etc.). When you upload a section, it's your responsibility to add the link and duration (mm:ss) to the Magic Window. The link from the uploader goes in the "Listen URL" column, duration goes in the "notes" column. You also change the "status" to "Ready for PL". Be sure to post in the thread that a new section is ready for PL so your DPL knows there is something new.
Some of the contents of the MW will appear in the final project page that listeners see and it will be used to create the ID3 tags that appear on their mp3 player. Again, welcome to your first solo project.

Hi Kathleen,

I'd love to be your DPL. I recently finished another project, and this looks like an interesting replacement.

PL OK! Though watch the file name in the future, it should be 'morris_128kb'.

Thanks Jordan! :D
0:38: You're missing "These indicate not only great remoteness of origin, but also a very gradual advance from the lowest stage of inventive ability to the high level now attained." between "primitive man" and "These relics"
