Cowardly Lion of Oz by Ruth Plumly Thompson (1891 - 1976).

Mustafa of Mudge has heard of the famous Cowardly Lion of Oz, and decides to capture him and put him into a zoo! He enlists the help of Bob Up and a clown called Notta Bit More - the master of disguise! The Cowardly Lion meanwhile travels though Oz and meets a stone man, who offers to turn the Cowardly Lion into stone: after all, a stone lion doesn't feel fear! Is this the solution to the Cowardly Lion's quest for courage? Or is it a trap, and does the stone man want to trick him for reasons of his own?

The Cowardly Lion of Oz was published in 1923, and is the seventeenth in the Oz series created by L. Frank Baum. It is the third by Ruth Plumly Thompson, and comes directly after "Kabumpo in Oz". The main themes are disguises, honesty, and being true to who you are. (Summary by Beth Thomas)

Volunteers outside the USA: Ruth Plumly Thompson died in 1976. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies.
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58765
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MW filled in but it is after midnight here, so I'll do the word counts another day!

I'm ready to take claims though.

EDIT: If someone want to DPL that would be nice, I've put the tilde back in the title. I'll DPL until/unless someone comes along.

Welcome to the project! All the information you need should be in the first post, but if you get stuck just ask and either Todd or I will try to give you a hand - or in my case direct you to those who can!

Thanks Nan, this is now in the MW.

You will notice (if you haven't already) that after Chapter 20 comes Chapter 20 (again). Since we then go to Chapter 22, I'm making an executive decision that the second Chapter 20 for the purposes of clarity will be called Chapter 21! How's that for innovation?! :P

(I think it is actually either a printing or scanning error, in either case we need to correct it or the numbering will be hopelessly confusing!)

Yes, I read that in the MW and will make the adjustment accordingly. :) Thank you for your very intelligent executive decision, which will no doubt keep many children (and adults, for that matter!) from suffering confusion unnecessarily. :)

I just recorded Chapter 21. Then 22. I was quite satisfied with 22, which I thought was done pretty well.

If I had only turned on the microphone, it would have been perfect.
