The Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night (Arabian Nights) Volume 10 by Anonymous ( - 0). Translated by Richard Francis Burton (1821 - 1890)

This is a collection of stories collected over thousands of years by various authors, translators and scholars. They are an amalgam of mythology and folk tales from the Indian sub-continent, Persia, and Arabia. No original manuscript has ever been found, but several versions date the collection’s genesis to somewhere between AD 800-900. The stories are wound together under the device of a long series of cliff-hangers told by Shahrazad to her husband Shahryar, to prevent him from executing her. Many tales that have become independently famous come from the Book, among them Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and the voyages of Sinbad the Sailor. This collection comes from the tenth of sixteen volumes translated by Richard Francis Burton.
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3444
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

This is set up. I assume you're looking for a DPL, so I added the tilde to the title.

I'll take a section. I'm a new reader. If all goes well, I may take a few more sections. For the sake of ease, I'll take section 1 to start if that's alright.

How do I know exactly where my section begins and ends?

Once the MW is filled in, it'll be easy to tell. The cell marking your part will turn gray, because it is assigned to you. Blue is open and green is PL OK. Once the gray (and your name beside it) stops, that's the end of your section in the MW.

On the other hand, if you mean your reading section from the ebook, you will be given a section (e.g., Chapter 1) and the ebook marks these clearly.

Once the MW is filled in, you'll be able to tell.

Thank you, that would be great! I still need to complete the Magic Window with all the information (real life got in the way of doing so this evening..)
Once it's complete, I can properly assign it to you, and it will have the info you need!

Alright, this is all set up! Please note, only the first 11 sections contain the "nights". The others are written by the translator, about various aspects of the works. I think they're very interesting.

All readers and a DPL are welcome! :D

Hi there. Alright, now for realsies:
You're very welcome to read section 1, which is Night 990. However, before you get started, we strongly recommend you complete a 1-minute test (instructions are in your welcome email). This is not an audition, but just to help you get all your settings correctly on a short test recording, rather than on a full section.

Additionally, I'll need to know under what name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the catalog.

I will reserve this section for you for 10 days, while you get those two things sorted. If you need more time, that's fine, just let me know. :)

Cheers,
Foon

Give me a few more days, please. I shall probably post a one minute test tomorrow. Once that's out of the way, and I've figured out the systems a bit better, it should go more smoothly. I'll be reading under the name Mergatroid Jones.
