Dr. Heidenhoff's Process by Edward Bellamy (1850 - 1898).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/dr-heidenhoffs-process-by-edward-bellamy/
Henry Burr's fiance, Madeline, is seduced by another man. The guilt and painful memories she has as a result cause him to refer her to Dr. Heidenhoff, who has developed a method to remove such memories from people's brains so that they can live happy lives. ( TriciaG)
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/7052
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Tricia, I'd like to claim chapter I, but I'm waiting on feedback for the 1-minute test I uploaded yesterday. Do I need to wait to get the OK first?

Thank you for your help!

I'll put in your claim, but please wait to start recording until any issues with your test are ironed out.

How would you like to be credited in the catalog? There are places for a catalog name (some use a nickname or forum name, some their real name) and a link to a personal web site or blog, if you have one. I recommend using whatever name you say (if any) when you say, "recorded by [your name]" as that's how listeners will look for you. (Keep in mind that prospective employers, classmates, enemies, etc. can also find you using the catalog name, so be cautious if privacy might be an issue.)

Hi Tricia- Thanks for your prompt response and for putting my claim in. I won't start recording until I get the ok. I'd like to be credited as Mike Golczynski (Goal-chin-skee). I don't have a website yet, but that can come later. :)

Thanks again, and have a great day!

You're in!

Here's your reader page: https://librivox.org/reader/12801

If you click on Reader Section Details, you'll see a list of projects you've claimed sections in, and at what stage of the process they're at. :)

I know I'm new here - I just did my first recording and have one more section in another project to complete - but I'd like like to claim as much of the rest of this book as you're willing to let me :D

Well, that's a surprise! I think I'm willing to assign you 4 sections. As you complete one, we can add on another. I'll put you in for 2-5. When 2's submitted, I'll assign you 6, and so on. How does that sound?

Thanks! I'll listen when I can (not now - I've got some online training to take).

The number signs apparently break the link. Next time, please just use the number rather than the symbol. :)

Ohmygoodness - so sorry for the delay in proof-listening! My parents were in town visiting, and I didn't get a chance to sit down to listen.

Excellently read! I could listen to you read this all day. :9:

This list looks long, but most of it is static just after the sentence. I suggest copying silence from elsewhere and pasting it over the static - shouldn't be too hard to fix, I don't think.

1:38 - "though it stretched to the crack of doom" - bit of static in the silence after this phrase.

5:07 - "It was George Bailey" - static after this phrase

5:15 - "unfortunate recent experience" - static

5:46 - "gave him employment as clerk" - a quick snap sound after this phrase

11:13 - "all that was sad and evil in its previous life" - static

12:08 - "without the usual closing hymn" - static

14:36 - "Good evening, she said" - static

15:23 - "lugubrious engrossments." - static

15:56 - "as much as George does." - static

17:55 - "cut our heads off sooner" - static

18:29 - "Confess." - static

19:24 - "if I wanted to" - static

20:41 - "Good night." - static

When you name the corrected file, please name it drheidenhoffsprocess_01_bellamy_128kb - no number symbols. :) Post the new link in this thread with the new run time, if it changed. Thanks!

Hi Tricia- Thanks for your kind words regarding my performance. I believe I have taken care of the static issue. I will begin using a second track to record room tone for edits like this in the future. Quite a learning experience, I must say.

The length is now an even 24:00

Thank you! PL OK!

Such static is unusual. I wonder what is its cause.

I'm not sure either, but it shows up in the places where I cut out breaths and other noises after I normalize...It happened to the piece I'm recording for another collection as well. I'm going to just replace all my extraneous noises with room tone instead of just cutting them out. Hopefully that'll fix the problem.
