The Valley of Kashmir by Sir Walter Roper Lawrence (1857 - 1940).
The Valley of Kashmir (1895) is a travel book by the English writer Sir Walter Roper Lawrence. The author served in the Indian Civil Service in British India, during which time he was appointed as the first Settlement Commissioner of Kashmir. The Valley of Kashmir is the summary of Lawrence's visit to Kashmir, during which he traveled to almost every corner of the Valley and developed a close affinity with the people who figure prominently in his work. Lawrence's book describes the geography, the culture, and the hardships faced by the Kashmiri people under the tyrannical rule of the Dogras.

  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Fatima,

I'd be happy to MC this for you. I'll get things set up and then be back with some further instructions.

OK, you are all set up. I see that you are also working on 1000 Nights as a solo, so Tricia has already given you instructions on logging into the MW. Works the same over here.

Ask if you have any questions.

Hi Mary Ann, Thanks so much for your help! My goal is to complete two sections per month of this book, and four sections per month of 1,001 Arabian Nights. I’m a Kashmiri girl, so this one is very near and dear to my heart! <3

Fatima,

This project looks really interesting! I'm very interested South and Central Asia, and travelogues in particular, and wanted to know if you were aware of any other similar works dealing with Kashmir, Ladakh, Sikkim, or any other ethnic minority regions which are now considered to be part of India. I'd like to do a solo as well at some point, and that's probably one of my favorite topics. Thanks, and best of luck with your project!

MaryAnn, Please give hdcn access to the MW so that he can upload his recordings when they're ready. I will volunteer as DPL for this project. Thanks,

Fatima

Hi, Chapter 2 is PL OK. However, after listening to this, I realized that when you recorded Chapter 1, you forgot to say "Chapter One of..." at the beginning of the recording (I had to go back and double check). Please just add the chapter number at the beginning of the first recording, and then I will spot PL. Thanks!

Fatima A.
