Short Story Collection Vol 072 by Various ( - 0).

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/short-story-collection-vol-072-by-various/
This collection is for any short story in the English Language in the public domain, preferably less than 60 minutes. You are welcome to contribute as many as you wish, and there is no need to "sign-up" before recording as long as the work is clearly in the public domain.

Please ask here if the story was published after 1922 or if you are unsure for any other reason about its public domain status. Note that translations attract their own new copyright and must also have been published before 1923.

Multiple versions are always welcome, so you can record a story that has been recorded before. (If the same stories are submitted twice in the same collection, we will carry the second version over to the next collection) .

You may prefer to submit your recording to one of the other more specialized short story collections. ( Lynne Thompson)
  • There is no need to state your intention to record a story.
Just choose a Public Domain short story (under 60 minutes) in English and when you have recorded it, post it here. [/b]
This collection will remain open until we have 20 submissions.
New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
Where do I find the text? You can select any public domain short story. A good place to start is http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Category:Bookshelf

If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.[/b]

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Need noise-cleaning?
Listen to your file through headphones. If you can hear some constant background noise (hiss/buzz), you may want to clean it up a bit. The new (free) version 1.3.3. of Audacity has much improved noise-cleaning. See this LibriVox wiki page for a complete guide.

Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader

(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: lt - Lynnet
When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Not sure why... unless it's because no one has submitted anything yet?

I'm hoping to submit something one day but at the moment my voice and readings are so terrible that I have to recover quite a bit more.

In spite of my previous message I have just recorded a very short story. However, if you think my reading is just not good enough, please let me know, as I'm working on trying to get my diction and speech back to a reasonable level. I'm hoping to get back to where I was a few months ago.

Thanks for the vote of confidence in passing my little effort!

I'm hopeful that I will get back to my previous slightly better level quite soon. Will do another (short) short story very soon, and then maybe a longer short story. I'm beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I have a much-loved collection of short stories, which includes one by Henry Kuttner called "Or Else". (Pub 1953)

It also contains the Ruum by Arthur Porges, (Pub 1953), and Little Brown Jesus by Joan O'Donovan (Pub 1970.)

I love these stories, and was hoping to record them for Librivox. They are out of copyright in UK law, but I gather that US Law is a different thing altogether. Are they off limits completely?

Thanks

Sorry to say, but yes. Our servers are located in the US, so we have to obey US law, which is that, with very few exceptions, works have to have been published before 1923. I am not sure of their rules, but you might want to check out legamus, which is European based. For more information on that, I suggest you contact one of the Europe-based admins (Cori or Carolin spring to mind, although I'd recommend the first as Carolin has a lot on her real life plate at the moment)
