The Mysteries of Paris Volume 1 by Eugene Sue (1804 - 1857).

this project is complete! All files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-mysteries-of-paris-volume-1-version-2-by-eugene-sue/
(Rodolphe, who is really the Grand Duke of Gerolstein (a fictional kingdom of Germany) but is disguised as a Parisian worker. He can speak in argot, is extremely strong and a good fighter. However he shows great compassion for the lower classes, good judgment, and has a brilliant mind. He is at ease in all layers of society and so is able to understand their problems, and how the different social classes are linked. ( Wikipedia) )
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/33800
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Terrific! Thanks Tricia!

I just added the quote again because I thought it was missing...nothing changed. :)

Oh and Jim Locke will be DPL. He worked on volumes 2-6 with me already and is curious about the beginning as I am. :)

Celine, good to hear your voice again. Excellent reading. I see that you have decided to read the notes, and the notes are helpful, especially when they translate the French. And I, of course, bow to your decision to read them in exact order, that is as they appear in the text. But I did wonder about the first note being so far removed from its introduction in the title, and I thought that the repetition of the phrase "note #" might be unnecessary. You might say "note 2" and then immediately read the contents of note 2 without repeating "note 2" and you might move the note to a more convenient but still near place. These comments do not require any changes because the "standard " PL review list does not include anything about notes and how they are to be handled. Please proceed in the manner you deem best. My comments here are mere suggestions. If you decide that what is, is best, I will change Chapter 1 to PL OK. Yours, Jim

Thanks for your input Jim. Frankly I'm never sure what works best but I think what you say makes sense. I'll take another look and probably change things a bit. I'll re-upload when I'm done and let you know. :-)

BTW I won't upload anything else for a week or so because I want to record as much as possible before my neighbor starts doing renos. I'll do my editing when it's too noisy to record. :)

I've re-uploaded Section 1. I'll read the notes where they appear throughout so it ill be consistent for the listener.
Thanks. :)
