Lady Byron Vindicated, by Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811 - 1896).

This project can now be found in our catalog at https://librivox.org/lady-byron-vindicated-by-harriet-beecher-stowe/
In 1869, the Atlantic published Stowe's article, The True Story Of Lady Byron's Life, a brief exposé of the famous poet Lord Byron's sordid private life which had led to a separation from his wife and drove him out of England, as told to her by Lady Byron herself before her death. Stowe wrote this article long after Lady Byron's death, when Lady Byron‘s impeccable reputation was being smeared across Europe by Byron's influential literary friends, and her trustees were doing nothing to defend her.
Criticism against the article raged in the American and European press and damaged the Atlantic's circulation, but Stowe remained confident, and the following year, she expanded her article into this full-length exposé. Sprinkled throughout with Byron's biting poetry, Lady Byron's and other notable correspondence, and Stowe's outrage at the way women were belittled and treated as property during the Victorian period, the invectives in this book are, even by modern standards, intense! Hi Michele. I would be glad to MC this. Has anyone already asked for the honor?

When setting up the MW, please include a 00 section for the Publisher's Note. I hadn't seen that before. Thanks.

Thanks, Phil. I sent this note earlier today asking you to include another section, 00. Apparently you didn't see it.

The MW is filled in and I have begun recording. This solo will tuck in and around others projects I am also working on, so I am not in a particular rush to finish it. I won't let it drag on too long, just not at breakneck speed. :)

Phil, I have decided to combine the short Publisher's Preface with Chapter 1, thus I must ask you to remove Section 00 from the MW. At your convenience, of course.

Sections 1 and 2 have been uploaded. Pretty scandalous stuff for its day . . . reads kind of like an Inquirer Magazine!

Section 3 is uploaded

https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenev ... _128kb.mp3 40:54

I never realized what an intense and flamboyant character Byron was. As his publishers destroyed his autobiography after his death as too scandalous, I am most curious to find out if any of the 5 copies that were supposedly made are still in existence and/or have ever been published.

Until a DPL comes along, I guess I'm just talking to you Mr. Phil. Hope you don't mind. I like to talk to someone!

Hi, Michele!

Hey, I'd be glad to sign on as DPL.

I should be able to listen to the sections you have posted soon.
