En Route by Joris-Karl Huysmans (1848 - 1907). Translated by Charles Kegan Paul (1828 - 1902)

The second book by Huysmans concerning the religious development of the novelist Durtal, who in the first book ("La-bas") experienced depravity and Satanism. He now undergoes a religious conversion. ( Peter Tucker)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/stream/enroute00huysiala#page/n5/mode/2up
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Lynne
Looks like we're a section short with this; sorry. Tried to add it myself but beyond my ken.

The translator's note is PL OK.

Do you keep copies of your completed projects? I ask because a few days after it's been catalogued (usually once the cover's added, or a few days if the cover designers are quick) I delete the files from a project I've PLed. It's not foolproof, but I'm assuming by that point it's as secure as it'll ever be. I just thought I'd mention it before I press delete!

Yes I keep the originals for some time though once it's on Archive I tend to trust that, perhaps unwisely. Anyway nothing is permanent!

Quite so. Although I was hoping that, while acknowledging the impermanence of all things, a precautionary copy of the project might have its merits.

I tend to do the same thing and assume that the Internet Archive's backup is safer than my own. But then, I don't read anything as famous as Freud, and I think I'd actually prefer it if a few of my early efforts vanished!

Chapter 1 is PL OK.

In an emergency, we can get hold of most projects... David (aradlaw) keeps backups of most catalogued projects (assuming the MC has asked him to) -- but it is a pain for him to retrieve them (well, maybe not in itself, but it means we have to ask him to drop what he's doing, go down to his basement and open up his backup server  I've only done it once, and felt awful about asking  )
