The Origin and Development of Psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud (1856 - 1939). Translated by Harry Chase (1883 - 1955)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-origin-and-development-of-psychoanalysis-by-sigmund-freud/

Here is a summary of the greatly influential theory of psychoanalysis in five short lectures by its esteemed creator, delivered apparently in German at an American university in 1910 and subsequently translated into English by one of the academics there. Freud manages to be comprehensive and entertaining; although his scientific rigour in adducing evidential support was even in those times, as he hints, open to question. ( Peter Tucker)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.bartleby.com/289/
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Somehow we seem to have gotten the wrong translator - should be Harry Chase (actually Harry Woodburn Chase), 1883-1955.

I'll change it. Not the first time a translator has been 'replaced' by the system.

Here is Sect 1:

23:55
These sections are a bit shorter than I thought. Looks like this will be finished fairly quickly.

PL OK. It's fine - it'll be finished when it's finished.

If you'd like me as DPL on the next project, just make a note of it when you launch.

The third lecture is PL OK. I think tomorrow I'll feel self-conscious about whatever I dream tonight!
