Men I'm Not Married To with Women I'm Not Married To by Dorothy Parker (1893 - 1967) and others.

Volunteers outside the USA: Franklin P. Adams died in 1960. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955) or Canada (author's death plus 50 years), UNLESS the rule of shorter term applies. <p>
Brief humorous or ironical anecdotes of men or women whom the authors rejoice they did not marry.
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/55670
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is only about 20 minutes of finished recording. It would go better in either the short nonfiction collection, or in the short story collection.

Some of the chapters (3 of them, if I remember correctly from when I looked at it a couple days ago) are only one or two sentences long. It would be better to keep it all in one audio file, I think. :)

This text-source contains both titles, "Men I'm Not Married To" with "Women I'm Not Married To", by different authors. Still maybe the best option is a separate recording of each title as contribution to a collection. What do you think, Joy?

Ah, I didn't see that it was two works in one. I was fixated on the Men portion and didn't notice the Women one.

It's probably OK as a standalone project, but I'd recommend just two sections rather than 6, one for each work.

Sorry for the confusion!

If it's okay as a stand alone project, I'd very much like to do that! It'll be my first Solo project and I'd like to figure out how to do a solo on something small. That way I can figure it out, wrap it up quickly, and then pick out another longer one right away to cement the process in my memory. :)

As to the sections... I was nervous about choosing the number of sections. The instructions said that it could be changed later and I thought it would be easier to take some out rather than put some in. But, if I drop the nerves and just look at it... I average 2.5 words per second which makes it about 41 minutes of audio give or take? As a listener of audiobooks, I've always disliked long sections - especially when the story has natural stopping places already in it. Could I do it in 4 sections? 2 per book?

However, maybe more sections makes it more complicated or harder to store? I know pretty much nothing about that side of things so... What do you think?

Thanks so much for your help and guidance!

many listeners are not keen on hearing the intros and outros too often especially if you start adding your name and web page etc, you can easily finish up with the actual text taking less time than the intco & outro combined.

Just a FYI: someone just submitted this to the Short Story Collection viewtopic.php?f=19&t=66953&hilit=+short+story+collection That's not to say you can't do it; it's just some readers like to be 'original'.
Help us finish:

Celebrated Women Travellers of the Nineteenth Century 7 sections remaining
Legends and Myths of Hawaii 6 sections remaining

Hi, Joy! I'll MC this for you. I'll set it up later this evening.

I'll start you with 6 sections, and we can always change it later if you want. It's really up to you; the main rule is that sections shouldn't be longer than 72 minutes (so they'll fit on an audio CD). I do agree that super-short sections can get tiring for listeners if they're hearing the full LV disclaimer every couple of minutes.

OK, you're all set! I've made a few suggested changes to the script auto-generated by the software, but you might need to adjust the intros and endings to each section a little more when you actually record them. For example, I imagine you'll want to say Franklin Pierce's name instead of Dorothy Parker's for the parts that he wrote.

I'll send you instructions for managing the Magic Window in a PM. Give me a shout if it gives you any trouble!

Yes, I've got it all recorded. I'm just working on processing the edits and making sure I didn't double up anywhere.

Also, I was wondering could I change how Librivox will list my name for this book?

I've previously published under Joy Baker, but I would prefer to use something else.

Thanks!

Great! You can actually change your catalog display name yourself: go to the Section Compiler and click the little "My Profile" link at the top of the page on the right. You can enter a new display name there. This will change your display name everywhere it appears in the LV catalog, including on all your other recordings (it can't be done for just one project). The other projects' Archive pages and CD covers will still show your original name.
