Leonora by Arnold Bennett (1867 - 1931).

This project is now in the catalogue. All audio files can be found on our catalogue page:
https://librivox.org/leonora-by-arnold-bennett/

Leonora Stanway is 40 and lives a comfortable middle-class life with her unsympathetic and dull husband, John. Her three daughters are rapidly growing up and away and she regrets that her life has become dull, domesticated and meaningless. Arthur Twemlow, the son of John’s former business partner, blows into Leonora’s life and that of her family. Meanwhile, old Uncle Meshach has re-written his will . . . .
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/13723
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

You're all set to go. I leave it to you to accept Betty and I'll add her as soon as she's confirmed DPL.

I changed the end silence requirement to 5 seconds for any length of recording. We no longer require 10 seconds on longer files. I added the required _128kb to the end of the filename.

If I've missed anything or can do anything more, let me know!

Have fun. :)

Betty -

Here's Chapter 3 (35:37)

https://librivox.org/uploads/darvinia/leonora_03_bennett_128kb.mp3

I'm not very happy with the quality of the recording - I hope it is good enough. I'm trying a few 'tweaks' for next time (which will be in a week or so as I'm going away - ) :)

Simon,
Chapter 3 is PL OK.

Since you bring it up, I did notice that the sound quality is not quite as good as your files usually are. However, they are still very understandable and acceptable as files, so don't fret about that. Have a good time on your holiday. :)

Hi Betty -

Back from a good holiday in Spain!

Here's Chapter 4 (30:30)

https://librivox.org/uploads/darvinia/leonora_04_bennett_128kb.mp3

I'm still not really satisfied with the sound quality - I'll keep fiddling -

libraryanne (Betty) is unavoidably unavailable for an indeterminate length of time.

smijen (Sarah) has indicated she can fill in with some proof-listening. I will send her a PM with this link and ask her to post here.
