Miss Philura's Wedding Gown by Florence Morse Kingsley (1859 - 1937).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/miss-philuras-wedding-gown-by-florence-morse-kingsley/ [catalog page URL]

Follow-up to "The Transfiguration of Miss Philura"....will the conviction of mild-mannered Miss Philura that "Ask and you have already received" be proved right or will her hopes be dashed, and the disapproving judgement of her fellow parishioners and neighbours be vindicated instead? Witty and gently critical observations on life in a small American township, particulary its female population, and the stirrings of change at the turn of the century. ( Anne F)
  1. Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/missphiluraswedd00kingrich
  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

  3. The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!

"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Say:
"Miss Philura's Wedding Gown, by Florence Morse Kingsley. [Chapter number, title]"

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapter [number] of Miss Philura's Wedding Gown by Florence Morse Kingsley. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "[Chapter number, title]"
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "End of [Chapter]"

There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.

Anne,

I'd be happy to MC this for you. I'll get your MW set up and then come back with some further instructions.

MaryAnn

Edit: OK, your MW is ready. I see you have done this before, so let me know if you have any questions and have fun!

You can change it, but I don't know that it will matter. The projects all get different names (somewhat based on the project name, but also with date added, unlikely that two projects with Philura's name get cataloged in the same month). So, if someone downloaded the MP3 files and put them in the same folder on their computer, I guess they could get mixed, but I think that's unlikely as most people download a zip file which is based on the project name, not the file name.

Anyway, if you want to change it, just go ahead and use the new file name when you upload, but try not to make it too long.

As chapter 3 is less than 7minutes long, I'd like to combine it in one file with chapter 4.....do I need to do the abbreviated intro between, or do I just say "end of chapter 3. ...chapter 4 of miss P's wedding gown by FMK" without the LV reference? Anne

"Chapters 3 and 4 of Miss Philura's Wedding Gown by Florence Morse Kingsley. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
"Chapter 3"...... ("End of Chapter 3" statement is optional), then briefly pause and state,
"Chapter 4"........"End of Chapter 4"

I hope this is clear. Readers vary somewhat in how they handle this situation. MaryAnn can delete any unneeded sections.

3 PL OK.

The 3 in this case refers to the section number.

4, 5
A minor quibble in both files. You forgot to say "This Librivox recording..." in the intros.
