Alan Alexander Milne (18 January 1882 – 31 January 1956) was an English author, best known for his books about the teddy bear Winnie-the-Pooh and for various poems. 'If I May' is a collection of short essays on desultory subjects that first appeared in The Sphere, The Outlook, The Daily News, The Sunday Express (London) and Vanity Fair (New York). These essays display Milne's vivid imagination and literary ability to elaborate on almost any subject in an engaging manner. Milne's literary style and humor - often self deprecatory - endear his writings as much to modern readers as they used to enthrall readers of his age. ( Wikipedia, S K)
Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard
IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated). Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
Genres for the project: *Non-fiction/Essays & Short Works; *Non-fiction/Humor

============================================
The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording! START of recording (Intro):
"Chapter [number] of If I May. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Say: "If I May, by A A Milne. [Chapter]"
For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
"Chapter [number] of If I May by A A Milne. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
If you wish, say:
"Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
Only if applicable, say: "[Chapter title]"
END of recording:
At the end of the section, say: "End of [Chapter]"
If you wish, say: "Recording by [your name], [city, your blog, podcast, web address]"
At the end of the book, say (in addition): "End of If I May, by A A Milne. "
There should be 5 seconds silence at the end of the recording, or 10 seconds for files longer than 30 minutes.
Example filename ifimay_##_milne_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. ifimay_01_milne_128kb.mp3)
Transfer of files (completed recordings) Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
Thank you, Anne! No hurry - please take your time.
This work has 41 essays. I think the average duration of an essay will be around 7-8 minutes. Would like to have your opinion on how to structure this - 41 sections or 2-3 essays in one section? I also wanted to have an abridged version of the 'public domain' announcement for section 2 and onwards.
All solos have a shortened disclaimer after the first section so what you have is fine.
Personally I'd read the sections seperately. I always feel that they are meant to leave you thinking about them and having the break gives you time to do that .
Sanjay - you don't need to do the word counts for a Solo , and for this in particular . If they are written for magazines , you'll find they are all about the same - the editor orders 1500 words or something and that's what he gets
Note: In Section 01, at about 6:29 there is the sentence, "But you are still getting ting no further". I am not sure whether that is a spelling mistake. I looked at another version of the book available online - these exact words are used. So I guess there may be a meaning to it that I am not able to figure out. Anyway, I have read it as it is.

I enjoyed your reads. As BC you can edit the ~ out of your first post (now that you have a PL).

Thanks Dave. I can remove the tilda. But out of curiosity - what is the significance of it? I am still learning the ropes here being a relative new comer.
It's a way of showing a project needs someone to volunteer to PL (proof listen) . There isn't much room in the heading line so saying DPL wanted isn't possible - but the tilde shows up well, and seems to work.

I've copied and pasted your first url link and file duration into the MW. Just click on the BC Admin button below the MW to open it. Let us know if you have any further questions.
