The Pretty Sister Of José by Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849 - 1924).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-pretty-sister-of-jose-by-frances-hodgson-burnett/

Pepita would rather become a witch than a wife. She's seen too many women, including her mother, wither away at their husband's hands. Popular and respected, our gentle, but fiercely independent heroine immediately grows cruel and cold to any suitor drawn in by her allure. When a famous bullfighting lady killer from Madrid takes interest in her, will Pepita's resolve crumble with disastrous consequences?

A hit upon its 1899 release, this novella later spawned play and silent film adaptations. Despite public popularity, its (now rather tame) intense love story and positive portrayal of Spaniards drew some controversy from English critics.

  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/25726
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello everyone,
I am currently somewhat MIA due to classes, but I will be back during breaks. I'll check up when I can, and I am slowly making my way through my DRs! Thank you for your patience.

We will move over to readers wanted to keep the launch pad tidy. Once we get a section in, we can advertise for a DPL.

I would highly reccomend submitting a 1 minute PL test to make sure all of your recording aspects are accurate, afterwards (once you get it approved, post a link to it here!), I will be happy to put you in he MW. :) Would you like a part of it, or the whole chapter?

I have done the one minute test, but it was a couple of months ago. I can do it again. I would like the whole chapter, thanks :)

I'm guessing you've registered a new account name? :hmm: If you could resubmit it for listening, I would appreciate it. :) Post it here when it has been approved.

Hi!

I'd like to PL Chapters 1-3. I'd love to be the DPL, I have the time and I have read the FAQ but this would be my first time to PL so I thought I'd try a few sections first.

Hi Sybilline! Thank you for showing interest. Unfortunately, I need someone available to stick to the entire project, not just a couple sections! :)

Oh! Okay :) I am not confident enough (not yet ^^) to handle an entire project but I hope to someday. Cheers!
