Romances of Old Japan by Yei Theodora Ozaki (1871 - 1932).

This project is now complete. All files can be found on the catalog page:
https://librivox.org/romances-of-old-japan-by-yei-theodora-ozaki/

A collection of short stories from old Japan rendered into English by Yei Theodora Ozaki.
Filled with tales of honor, adventure, tragedy, and romance, this collection
will surely give anyone interested in Japanese culture and literature (as well as anyone
who can appreciate a good story well-told) an insightful and enjoyable experience. ( mlcui)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://archive.org/details/romancesofoldjap00ozak
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

How nice! I have looked at this myself a while ago, but I'm too busy with other stuff...

At least, I'll MC this for you!

Later:
Your MW is up and running! I am not offering to DPL at this point, since I'm really busy with other stuff still. But I am sure somebody will be along soon.

I am not sure if there are enough sections - the stories look awfully long, about 50 pages each. Remember that we shouldn't go over 74 minutes per section; if you need a bigger MW, just let me know.

Have fun! :D
Cheers, Ava.

Hi. I can DPL this for you, if you'd like. Sounds like an interesting read.

Thank you very much, Ava and John! I'll get to it :D

You're right about the need for more sections, I think it will end up with maybe sixteen or so.
But it's simple enough to add more sections to the MW as I go.

I have added John as DPL for this as well as a few more sections.

And since you have started already, let's move us to "going solo". Enjoy you two! :D

Wonderful reading -- very fine! There was only one minor slip, right at the beginning (0:42) where the word "impeding" was read as "impending". But this is very insignificant, so this section is PL OK.

It will be a lot of fun reading this book with you as my guide.

Apologies for taking so long. Hard to find recording time with
noisy neighbors around. Argh.

Terrific job. I like the way you're handling the footnotes -- very elegant. Section 2 PL OK.

Section 3 pl OK.

This is a fascinating read. Each chapter goes to a place that I had not anticipated at all.

I love stories like these - never predictable, never boring.
They are atmospheric and perfectly paced. I'm glad you seem to be enjoying them, too. :)
