Anthony Trent, Master Criminal by Wyndham Martyn (1875 - 1963) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: [catalog page URL] http://librivox.org/anthony-trent-master-criminal-by-wyndham-martyn/

Volunteers outside the USA: Wyndham Martyn died in 1963. The author's work in general is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955). - but this work falls under the Rule of the Shorter Term, since it was first published in the USA in 1918 and is in the public domain there - the Netherlands recognises the Rule of Shorter Term - see: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Information_about_copyright_rules.
In 1918, Anthony Trent, a well-educated young man in his late twenties, lives an unsatisfactory life in a New York boarding house. He writes successful crime fiction stories, but this doesn't pay enough for him to do the things he wants. Things change when he starts to put his knowledge of crime to a practical use... It gets him into serious trouble before long. (Summary by Anna Simon)
  • Target completion date: 2013-Aug-15
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/40909
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Found this book at a secondhand bookstore at Bredevoort (a Dutch book town) today, on my holiday - of course I was looking for things for Librivox! And this looks like a fun addition.
The author apparently was very fortunate in a very long life, but thanks to the Rule of Shorter Term, I don't have to wait 21 years....

Anyone interested in prooflistening? Will only start recording after I get home this weekend

Well, I'm back home - and the first three sections are ready for listening.

Don't worry, I don't expect to keep up this speed for long ;) but I wanted to get into the story. And don't worry about PL-ing quickly or anything, I really am not in a hurry.

And a few more chapters.
Now WW-I starts to make an appearance, showing a different side to the story.

(Reminds me of for example "Patricia Brent, spinster" and "In Brief Authority", which were written around the same time - of course in the middle of WW-I, so even in otherwise light-hearted works it would still be part of reality...).

Hi Anna,

I'm looking forward to seeing how the countess and Trent interact with each other after the happenings of chapter 9.

Chapter 7:
@15:21 "His lady, weighted with Guestwick jewels, tried to create the impression that, after all, Caruso owed much of his success to her amiable patronage."-- Repeated @15:31

8 & 9 are PL OK!!

I'll be back with more later this afternoon. :)

Thanks for that catch! I've snipped the repeat out and uploaded the new mp3 of section 7.

I'm also curious to see how & when the countess will return in the story...
