The Life of Benjamin Franklin by Samuel G. Goodrich (1793 - 1860) .

This project can be found in our catalog when it goes public in a few weeks at http://librivox.org/life-of-benjamin-franklin-by-samuel-g-goodrich/

Meanwhile, if you want to listen to sections or download it, try the Archive at viewtopic.php?f=28&t=46445&p=879248#p879248

This little book was intended for the education of school children and includes tales, sketches and anecdotes of his life written for the children of the mid 1800's and written in the English languge of that period. Each chapter has numerous questions intended for the the reader or the teacher to quiz themselves to see if they gathered the pertinent information. The quiz questions will not be recorded. Also part of this book are numerous short essays written by Franklin on various topics. These entertaining and insightful samples occupy sections 17 through 27. (Summary by phil chenevert)
  1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here
To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you'd like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
  2. New to recording?
Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
  3. Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
  4. Where do I find the text?
Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/38469
  5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)!
If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

NOTE: 1. Do read the subtitles for each chapter (all those topics listed under the chapter heads) and
    2. do NOT read the numbers before each paragraph or the questions at the end of the chapter.
    Have fun. ! Image

Note to readers: DO read the full titles at the start of each chapter. DO NOT read the numbers at the start of each chapter or the questions at the end of the chapter.

And you made the right choice ... uh .. I presume you meant weeding your garden, not smoking it .....

I do live part of the time in Colorado (and part in flat Minnesota), so I could very well "smoke" right down the street. The way I tend to mess up the first recordings, I could revert to that! (See the Man Who Swears selection I tried to get right) :?

Oh, sorry Phil, Mary and I must have both misread your instructions in the same way!

There are no subtitles read in Chapter 1.

I see now that that are supposed to be read.

Will note this in MW.

Having recently read his autobiography, I'd be delighted to take on a couple of sections. How about 2 & 3?
