In the court of Louis XIV, adaptations of Greek tragedies were very popular. This play, heavily influenced by Euripides' Hippolytus, deals with love that violates social taboos. Note: In Racine's work, a new "scene" begins whenever a character enters or exits. Therefore, there are no stage directions, only a list of the characters on stage for each scene. The action is continuous for the entire act. (Summary by Libby Gohn)
Is there a deadline?
We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen.
How to claim a part, and 'how it all works' here
To find a role to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which role you'd like to read. Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
Please claim roles (the numbers in the first column below)! Please note: All Librivox recordings are in the public domain. When you submit your recording, you will be placing your recording in the public domain as well. If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!
For everything else, just do whatever you want. I've used the Greek pronunciations, as opposed to the French, because the translator transcribed the names from the French.
Genres for the project:
myths-legends, play, tragedy
Keywords that describe the book/play:
Greek mythology;

Brilliant! Can't wait for this to get started! I'll PL the final acts, if you want (I know, ages away!) since I owe you for PLing chapters in Phantom I love this play
A Level exams from 4th May to 30th June. I am around, just not as often. If I forget or miss anything, drop me a PM and I'll be on it like a wasp on honey!

Thanks Charlotte! And yes, this play is awesome! I saw it live with Helen Mirren: MIND BLOW.

OK, I think you should be good to go. I've added cat in as DPL, even though I know she won't be PLing until the acts are completed.
I'd be happy to read whatever you think would suit me. I'm not sure if folks have expressed preferences for roles elsewhere, but I could read Phaedra, or Oenone, or whatever you'd like.

I think you'd be a great Phaedra, I'll go sign you up!
How would you like to be Aricia? She's from the old ruling family of Athens that got kicked out by Theseus, and now she's not allow to have children because, in Greece, revenge is genetic.
