The U-boat hunters by James B. Connolly (1868 - 1957) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/the-u-boat-hunters-by-james-brendan-connolly/

Volunteers outside the USA: James B. Connolly died in 1957. The author's work is still protected by copyright in places, like Europe, where copyright is author's death plus 70 years, and Australia (author's death plus 70 years for authors who died after 1955).
The author takes the listener on a tour of various ships used in WW1. He discusses the boats and the seamen who occupy them and their encounters with the German U-boats. It is a collection of short stories, each one complete, about them all. The author was also an Olympic athlete; winning a bronze, silver and gold medal in the Athens Olympics of 1896 and a silver in the Paris games of 1900.(Summary by wtomcho )
  • Target completion date: 2013-Jun-01
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/23601
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

And we're off!!!

Thank you Maria very much for MCing this project for Laura and Me!

I've uploaded section 01 into the MW. I'm assuming that it is not necessary to post the URL and time here but that it's sufficient to just have it in the MW.

I hope I did this first section correctly. This is my first "Solo" completely from the beginning; my previous one being one I picked up from someone else.

Hi Bill, just need to add the author's name in the intro.

And I'm not sure the following needs to be changed but I'll just make mention of it in case you should wish to:

@1:28 text is "and, drooping, trails low in a murky wake."-- was read "wave"

I'm glad to be working with you again!

Hi Laura,

I uploaded the corrected copy adding the author's name in the intro, changing "wave" to "wake" and adding 2 seconds to the time.

Thanks for catching these Laura and please do not hesitate to point out the smallest correction, I really do appreciate it!!!

Hi Laura,

Sorry about that, thanks for catching it; those short naps are terrific. The corrected copy as well as a revised time, one second was added, have been posted.
