Huntingtower by John Buchan (1875 - 1940) .

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on the catalog page for this project: http://librivox.org/huntingtower-by-john-buchan/
Dickson McCunn, a respectable, newly retired grocer, plans a walking holiday in the hills of south-west Scotland. He meets a young English poet and finds himself in the thick of a plot involving the kidnapping of a Russian princess, who is held prisoner in the rambling mansion, Huntingtower. This modern fairy-tale is also a gripping adventure story. (Summary by Simon Evers)
  • Target completion date: September 2012
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3782
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi,
Sections 01 and 02 are both PL OK!

A calm start to this story. From your summary I think it'll get exciting quickly. :)

Hi Simon,

Chapter 2 is PL OK

The main character is more likable than Jocelyn was. At least so far! :)

Betty:

I've done Chapters 4 & 5 - herewith. However, I'm not entirely happy with the way I have done the voices of Mrs Morran and 'the Chieftain'. Please have a listen and let me know what you think - I'm happy to redo if need be.

Simon

Hi Simon,

Chapter 3 is PL OK!

The voices you used sound good to me, so I don't see the need to rerecord unless it really bothers you.

I'll get to chapter 4 by tomorrow evening.

Betty -

I'm glad you think my Scottish accents are OK!

Here's Chapter 5, anyway (a long one - 44:46):

http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/ck/huntingtower_06_buchan.mp3

The complications of early 20th century European politics with Bolsheviks, the proleteriat, etc. is all a bit tedious and, to modern minds, very dated. Nonetheless, it's working up to be a decent adventure yarn, I agree. I like the characters, certainly.
